Nail And Foot Care

1. Definition Nursing actions performed on clients who are unable to treat and cut
nails independently.

2. Goal Maintain cleanliness and prevent infections due to long and dirty
nails

3. Equipments 1. Tray complete with pedestal’s tray.

2. 1 piece of Nail clipper
3.1 piece of towel
4. Basin filled with warm water (40-42ºc)
5. Basin filled with clean water
6. Kidney Dish containing disinfecting solution
7.Soap in its place
8. 1 piece of nail brush
9. Pedestal (needles and pads)

4. Assessment

5. Implementation 1. Explain the procedure to the client

2. Determine the nail to be cut
3. Adjust the client's position as comfortable as possible
4. Put the pad under the hands or feet to be cleaned

Cut nails on both hands

1. Soak the nail in warm water for 2 minutes
2. If the nail is very dirty, brush with a nail brush, soaped, rinse with
warm water, dry with a towel
3. Put the kidney dish under the nail to be cut, so that the nail’s pieces
don't fall apart
4. Cut the nails straight, not to the bottom of the nail ,do not be too
deep because it can cause injury, then in the miserly edges of the nail
5. Wash the nails with clean water and dry with towel

Cut the nails on the toes

10. Soak the feet in warm water for 2-3 minutes
11. If the nails are very dirty the nails are brushed using a nail brush,
soaped, rinsed with warm water and dried with a towel
12. Put kidney dish under the nail to be cut, so that the nail’s pieces
don't fall apart
13. Toe nails are cut straight then in the miserly edges of the nail
14. Wash your toenails with clean water and dry (if necessary give
lotion to the toes)
15. Rearrange the client's position
16. Equipment is trimmed and returned to the place
17. Wash hands
18. Observation of the client's circumstances

6. Evaluation 1. Ask the client's condition after the action of cutting nails
2. Expected results :
a. Clean and neat nails
b. The client feels comfortable
