Archthecture is a term that cannot be explained simply or in a few words.

It holds a complicated and, at

the same time, magnificent meaning as it combines engineering and art, composing something both
useful and beautiful. It is far more than planning, modeling, calculating, and building. It is about creating
an atmosphere, space, design, masterpiece, which will gather stories of people living, working, and
walking around, and telling these stories to people from other places and other generations.

An architect is a person who should have the heart of the artist and mind of an analyst to design a
building, which will both adorn the environment and serve a certain practical purpose in a full way. An
architect has to consider numerous details in order to produce something worthy and significant. From
an aesthetical viewpoint, the building has to look good and harmonious with surroundings, eventually
becoming a part of an everyday life of people in the area. From the social aspect, it has to create a
comfortable place for working or living, which will not disturb the neighbors. Also, it is crucial to take the
cost, time, implementation team, construction, and many other things into account. Hence, being an
architect requires a person to have and constantly improve the creative and critical thinking skills.

There is a depth in each building that surpasses the visible physical characteristics of its structure. The
philosophy that derives the experiences created within is an essential element in understanding each
building or structure. It is this philosophy that differentiates an architect from another. For example, the
organic philosophy in architecture deascribe as "form and functions are one" that lifted Frank Lloyd
wright’s status to be called the greatest American Architect of all times. He believed that the knowledge
of the relations between form and function was essential for the practice of architecture and could only
be achieved by studying nature and its principles. The church of the Sagrada Familia, perhaps more than
any of Gaudi’s earlier works, expresses his belief that a ‘mystic symbolism inhabits the form of
architecture.’ (Schmutzler 1962, 212).The church was a lifetime commission and remained uncompleted
upon his death in 1926 – a reflection of the ambition and scale of the project. It has been described as
the most important ecclesiastic building since the late eighteenth century (Schmultzer 1962, 227) with
its most poignant features being the rich decoration and towers with their Expressionist shape and
form. The Viennese architect Adolf Loos (1870-1933) was one of the pioneers of modern architecture at
the turn of the century.

On the other hand, thr architecture of the Philippines is a reflection of the history and heritage of the
country. This can be manifested in the works of some known Filipino architects like Francisco Mañosa
with his distinctive style, known as Contemporary Tropical Filipino Architecture, is a heady mixture of
seemingly incongruous elements. Coconut lumber, rattan, shell, thatch, and even indigenous textiles are
juxtaposed with hypermodern materials: metal, glass, concrete.

Architecture is the art of making building combining science and aesthetic value to produce a
comfortable shelter for human that is beautiful and functional. As the work keep on changing,
Architecture is the mirror of these changes. It is a clhallenge for architects to promote creativity

producing socially and politically provocative pieces

being creative and sensitive to our ever changing environment

being innovative and imaginative

engaging with the community and council and everyone in between

starting a continuing conversation about all areas of architecture and the built environment.
