CHAPTER 01
INTRODUCTION
Computer-aided design (CAD) is the use of computer systems to aid in the creation,
modification, analysis, or optimization of a design. CAD software is used to increase the
productivity of the designer, improve the quality of design, improve communications through
documentation, and to create a database for manufacturing. CAD output is often in the form of
electronic files for print, machining, or other manufacturing operations. The
term CADD (for Computer Aided Design and Drafting) is also used. CNC Machining is a process
used in the manufacturing sector that involves the use of computers to control machine tools. Tools
that can be controlled in this manner include lathes, mills, routers and grinders. The CNC in CNC
Machining stands for Computer Numerical Control.
On the surface, it may look like a normal PC controls the machines, but the computer's unique
software and control console are what really sets the system apart for use in CNC machining,
Power MILL is one of the software work on the same basis.

PROBLEM DEFINATION

CHAPTER 03
DETAILED DESIGN
Fig 3.1
Step 1.
Design a product using “FEATURE CAM” software in Turn/Mill using various commands like
Line, Curve etc.
At the beginning I use line command to draw a line at the point 0, 8, and then extend this line in
X-direction for 2mm, then one more line in –Z direction for 16mm, and then I use “CHAFER”
Command to chafer with radius 2mm. Then step up the line in X- Direction with 2mm & then in
Z- Direction with 22mm. then I use chafer command with dimension 2mm each. After that
“GROOVE” operation for next 15mm with diameter size 20mm. then I draws a line perpendicular
to groove up to diameter 36mm and the one line at angle 14.833⁰ with Reference to Z. Then I add
one curve to that line with radius 13mm, tangent to this curve plot one more line with 80mm
diameter.
Fig 3.2
Step 2.
By using “Pick Point” option I join all line & make a single line as shown in figure.
Then I use “TURN” option from the “FEATURE” and revolve the drawn diagram.
Fig 3.3
Step 3.
I choose the feature TURN, TURNING from the dialogue box as shown in figure. By using this
feature the line diagram get converted in the revolved part.
Fig 3.4
Step 4.
After applying all the parameters to the work piece (as shown in dialogue box) the base part of the
product is ready.
Fig 3.5
Step 5.
After completing the revolve parameters next operation is the “THREADING”, for this I select the
“FRATURE” option & then “THREAD” , by using this feature we can apply threads on the work
piece.
Fig 3.6
Step 6.
To create threads on the work piece I choose THREAD option & then apply dimensions to as
above shown dialogue box, in this way I apply the total length of thread is 25mm with major
diameter 24mm & 1.5mm pitch & thread height.
Fig 3.7
Step 7.
After applying all the dimensions I check all the parameters before finishing the threading
operation in dialogue box as shown in figure.
Fig 3.8
Step 8.
After providing all the dimensions the work piece structure will look like the above figure.
Fig 3.9
Step 9.
For better view of operation I select the ISOMETRIC view from the MENUE bar & then
“TOOLPATHS” for simulation of work piece.
Fig 3.10
Step 10.
After completing the simulation the work piece will look like as shown in figure.

CONCLUSION
From the experiment, I learnt the principle of CNC machine. I gained better understanding
in the modes of operation of CNC machine & use of Feature Cam Software. By the use of Feature
Cam Software I design the Input Shaft using various features of Feature Cam Software.
From the experiment, I conclude that the objective of Numerical Control (NC) Programming,
Computer Numerical Control (CNC) milling machine and Feature Cam Software has been
successfully achieved.
