CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

Project Context

Over the last few decades, advancements in computer and software technologies
have reached an impressive level. These technologies improve not only very common areas
of our daily life, but also areas of education, health, production industries, and so on. In
recent years, there is a rapid development of technology. One of the notable technologies
which is gaining a fast pace popularity in the global consumer market is the mobile
technology. In the survey report of Gelo Gonzales (2019), there are now 5.11 billion unique
mobile users today, increasing by 100 million in the past year, globally. Mobile phones
hence can be used for a number of such purposes. What makes the information easily
available is mobile applications. Every mobile app has a unique feature which offers its
own set of services.

Learning is a continuous process and the focus has now completely shifted to
eLearning. Due to the mobile phones and the various feature-oriented applications, students
can learn at their pace and take their time at understanding things, as everything is just a
click away. With the emergence of this trending mobile technology, there is a considerable
probability to transplant academic affairs and information from computer to mobile devices
to improve service quality and management efficiency. However, given the rapid pace of
technological change over the last decade, many parents and teachers have found it
challenging to keep up to date with new technologies and fully exploit the exciting
educational opportunities that these new technologies represents.

Mother tongue education refers to any form of schooling that makes use of the
language or languages that children are most familiar with. This is usually the language
that children speak at home with their family. Here in Bislig City, elementary students from
grade 1, 2, and 3 is taking up mother tongue-based subject focuses on mixed process of
teaching and learning Sinugbuanon language and Kamayo since here in Bislig City is
already contextualize the central language which is the Kamayo. As of the adjustment of
the teachers, and in need of the students and also their parents for the new method of
teaching we come up with an idea of proposing this kind of mobile application system
which is the “Mother Tongue K-12 Translator Mobile Application”. The advantages of this
study are; it is more convenient in learning the subject, reduce the amount of time
consuming in researching for the meaning, handy and easy to use application and no hassle
in translating for the particular language.

With the advance technology of this generation, we the researchers is seeking to

meet the demand of the users in faster and easier processes. If this system will be
successful, users of this study will reduce their works and to have more efficient and user
friendly to them.

CHAPTER 3

TECHNICAL BACKGROUND

Technicality of the Project

The researcher’s observation about the problem of the students in our place have
difficulties in understanding and translating the words and phrases in our native languages.
Especially in translating into the deeper words and meaning of Bisaya and Kamayo,
because not all the students have knowledge to understand our native languages. Not only
to the students but also a helping tool for the teachers that involved in the mother tongue-
based subject.
With this, the proponents found an opportunity to create a mobile translator
application that will help the students and to all the travellers to be knowledgeable enough
to understand and translate the languages. Having this proposed system help the users to
understand, translate and communicate in a very convenient way.
The Mobile Applications also known as mobile apps are software programs
developed for mobile devices such as smart phones and tablet computer. Mobile app
constantly serve to provide users with similar services to those accessed on PC’s.
Our proposed system will use the Android Studio Version 2.0 an official integrated
development environment (IDE) from Google that includes everything needed to build an
app, including as code analysis tools, emulators and more. This version of Android Studio
has fast build speeds and a fast emulator with support for the latest Android version and
Google Play Services. The system uses Genymotion as our emulator, it is an easy-to-use
Android emulator that helps us test our system within a safe, virtual environment.
