The Black Death was one of the most feared diseas
in the 14 century. It was a type of plague that
spread via the bite of infected rat fleas. The name
Black Dear came from the swollen buboes (glands)
in the victim’s neck, armpits,,and inner thigh that
turned black as they filled with blood. Victims
often died within 12 hours of being bitten. This
outbreak of the Black Death originally started in
the 1200s in Central Asia, before sweeping Europe
between 1348 and 1350. It killed upp to half the
population in some countries.
Once the Balck Death had begunin Asia in the 1200s. mongolian
soldier took it with them when their armird attacked the West
in 1330. By 1347, the plague had hit Constatinople, now
Istanbul, in Turjey. This was the world’s major trading cemter
and merchants leaving here took the disease all oveer Europe.
It spread rapidly in the cramped, dirty conditions of medival
Europe. The first reports of the bLack Death in England came
from Weymouth in Dorset, where a ship carrying some Frech
soldiers is said to have brought the infection in July 1348. It
then spread throughout southwest England, reaching Bristol in
August, and London in th autumn. By July 1349, Tha Black

South Asia in the 1200s. Because living conditions were
often cramped and dirty, humans lived in close contack
with rats. Black rats were the most comon at this tim, and
carried the bacteria called Yersinia pestis, which caused
the plague. The rats then spread it to fleas that lived on
their bodies. The fleas would drink the blood of infected
rats, swallowing harmful bacteria. They then passed the
infecton onto humans by biting them

out by the Black Death, no one was left to work the land
and grow food. It’s estimated that between 1348 and
1351, 25 million people worldwide died from the Black
Death. When its reached Europe it killed 30% its entire
population. England lost between a third and half of its
population. By 1350, the Black Death had runs its course
in England. There was no particular reason why it came
to an end,other than it simply ran out of victims to claim.
Although the Black Death was over in England by this
time, other plagues returned to England and Europe to kill
even more people. Another notable plague outbreak was
the Great Plague of London that struck in 1665

The Black Death was deadly and highly contagious,

meaning that it was capable of being passed from
person to person by direct contact with a diseased
individual. At this time in Europe, a series of bad
harvests had caused a lack of nourishing food. This
lowered the populatio’s ability to fight disease,
meaning the Black Death infected more people.
Symptoms include a violent headache, chills, vomiting,
lumps the size of an orange under the arms, as well as
back boils and spots over the body. Treatment was
varied. One from was to cut open a lump with a sharp
knife and cover it with a warm layer of buuter, onion,
and figs to draw the poison out. Another was to take a
live frog and rub its belly over the victim’s body. Such
methods didn’t work, and at the time no cure was ever
found. As a results, most people died within three days
of falling sick and many died within 12 hours.
