Musculoskeletal Disorder (MSD) Examples: Injuries to muscles, joints, tendons or nerves, which
are caused or made worse by work-related risk
factors
• Bursitis • Inflammation of bursae (sacs of fluid at points
of friction in joints)
• Carpal tunnel syndrome • Disorder that causes prickling or numbness
in the hand. Caused by compression of the
median nerve, which runs through the wrist
• Lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow) • Similar to hitting ‘funny bone’ at elbow
• DeQuervain’s disease • Tendons on become inflamed on inside of
wrist and forearm just above thumb
• Guyon’s canal syndrome • Similar to carpal tunnel syndrome but involves
a different nerve – ulnar nerve
• Radial tunnel syndrome • Causes aching in the forearm just below the
elbow
• Tendonitis • Inflammatory condition of a tendon
• Tenosynovitis • Inflammation of the tendon sheaths
• Trigger finger • Affects the movement of the tendons that bend
the fingers or thumb
