Reflection: Team Expectations and Setting Roles

I expect we all work as a team to work in an effective matter that meets deadlines
and values the diverse input from all members within. By working as a team, we can divide
the various tasks in our System Levels Testing, and from multiple viewpoints of knowledge,
understandings, and findings on various topics identify more issues that could be missed
by another member. I expect that both individuals and sub teams alike will identify any
issues and share their findings with the team as a whole. One team member may write
tests, another may measure the results, and another may organize the results in data
sheets. I expect some of us who have more experience in the field to help guide the
members with less experience to what is the next step in the project. I expect the team to
well document our findings, and use the git recourse to share any written code or findings
with the team, maintaining confidentiality of sensitive or private data between the team
and the clients.
The most important performance indicator for both individuals and sub teams
within the team is communication. Anything discovered then hidden under a rock is left
unfound. If a member finds a potential issue the team should know about it, so we can
work on the resolution together, more heads equals more ideas. If the team makes plans,
deadlines or meetings those are expected to be well communicated to each member. Any
safety concerns or personal affairs that could hinder the performance of a member, things
will go much better if we have good communication.
In an example in an article five team member positions could be: Meeting Scribe,
Meeting Facilitators, Chief Engineer, Test Engineer, and Report Manager. Our group has a
Meeting Scribe who is responsible for setting up meetings between faculty, staff, and clients
and relaying information from us and faculty to the clients. We have a general note taker
who is to be present to take notes during meeting times and relay information between
team in a visual manner that is understandable to each member. We have a Website
Manager that will manage our Git website to keep it clean and organized, making sure all is
up to date with what is needed. We have a Team Reporter who well documents any code
or testing results found. We have a Data Scientist who works with the team reporter to
organize data results in charts, graphs, and such. All together we are expected to have a
role in testing individual parts so we should all have a role in that. We should all also make
an effort to strive in good communication on what we are working on next and deadlines to
meet.
My role will be the notetaker. I think it’s a great role because I’ve always been the
old fashioned person with a notebook and pen in hand for every lecture even when it
seemed pointless, when slides and laptops replaced them. I like visuals and sketches to
make the unclear things clearer. Having a good image, flowchart, truth table, tree state,
finite state, or any other type of diagram or table is like having a great analogy to explain a
confusing topic. Being able to take a big problem and break it into its small individual
pieces in an understandable way is what I’m good at. When it comes to hearing important
information, I’m quick to forget that information unless I record it and process that
information, that’s why note taker is right for me!

If any of our team members are feeling uncomfortable or unproductive in their roles
or sub teams, we will be willing to meet and talk about any issues they are having to help
resolve the issue as quickly as possible. If change is needed to help them feel more
comfortable in their position and change is good for the project that may be a good route to
take. Maybe a member feels uncomfortable in a position, We can seek to work them into
an area that they feel more proficient and comfortable where they are. Most importantly to
keep the team an inclusive environment we want to keep the environment a
communication and input friendly environment.
