QUESTION :

The ability to write well is not a natural acquired skill for the
second language learner of English. It is usually learned
through frequent practice in formal instructional settings
( Galea, S.R & Kaur, J., 2005 ). Writing is indeed a complex
process as it involves composing, which requires the ability
to piece together information in an acceptable form, which
can be clearly understood. Learners not only need to have
the ability to write down simple sentences but also to
compose by transforming ideas into coherent piece.

In groups, you are required to collect three articles related

to the topic or theme of your choice. Read and understand
them well. Then from your own understanding, write an
essay of about 400 words. You are to design a graphic
organizer and write an essay based on the texts you have
collated and collected. You are to present the main ideas
using appropriate language.
ANSWER :

GLOBAL WARMING.

Has it ever occured to you that we are only guests on earth ? Well, we behave
as if no further visitors would arrive after us. It’s like having a wild party. We
destroy everything without thinking of the consequences. That’s what we are
doing to our Earth. The truth is, the cause of global warming is our thoughtless
attitude towards Nature.

So, what is actually global warming ? Global warming is when the earth heats
up which makes the temperature rises. It happens when greenhouse gases
which are carbon dioxide, water vapor, nitrous oxide and methane trap heat and
light from sun in the Earth’s atmosphere, which increases the temperature.
Greenhouse gases are gases that collects heat and light from the sun.
Greenhouse effects makes the Earth able to have us living on it but if there are
too many gases, the Earth can get warmer and many plants, animals and
people will die.

Now, let us take a look at the impacts of global warming. Greenhouse effects
makes the Earth able to have us living on it but if there are too many gases, the
Earth can get warmer and many plants, animals and people will die because the
heat would be too strong. This temperature rise will melt polar ice caps and
glaciers as well as warm the oceans, expand ocean volume and raise sea level
contributing to great floods. This is a big problem because when water covers
the land, plants will die and animals lose source of food, along with their habitat.
When the sea water gets warm, it will destroy the algea which is a source of
food for the ocean life.
There are many ways that we can try to stop global warming. For example, we
can carpool. Carpooling can minimize the amout of greenhouse gases put into
the air by a car because there will be less cars on the roads. We can also ride
a bus to work, walk to school or ride a bicycle to lower the greenhouse gases in
the air. Planting trees and recycling also helps. If we recycle, less trash goes to
the dump and less trash gets burnt. Always say ‘no’ to plastic bags. They are
made of polyethylene and can take up to 1,000 years to biodegrade in landfills
that emits harmful greenhouse gases. Remember to switch off the television
sets, radios, stereos, computers and monitors after using them because a
screen saver is not an energy saver. Shutting it off would reduce the carbon
dioxide emissions. We can also contribute to a safer Earth by planting trees.
Trees and other plants collect carbon dioxide that human breathe out and they
give back oxygen that we breathe in. With less trees and other plants, there is
less air for us. So, it is very important to protect our trees to stop the
greenhouse effects.

Last but not least, everyone living on Earth is responsible to make the Earth a
better and safe place to live on. Let’s not be an ignorant human being. It’s time
to change.
