About HOPES:
HOPES is a non-political, student run NGO working for patient welfare at Abbasi Shaheed
Hospital since 1994 and provides free of cost medical and diagnostic facilities to the patients of
Abbassi Shaheed Hospital, Karachi Institute for Heart Diseases and Dental OPD at KM&DC in
Karachi.

Background:
For the past three years, HOPES has been organizing an annual Health Expo which has been
attended by more than 25,000 people last year and got the chance to met and got consultations
from various specialty clinics trained by some of the best and most renowned clinicians in town.
And general medical and dental check-ups, blood screenings facilities has been provided free of
cost.

Overview:
After studying the individual burn cases we have got to know that almost all the causes of the burn
injuries are mistakes due to “lack of knowledge”, “lack of information” and “lack of proper education and
training”. If proper information on “Burns” would have been given, many precious lives could have been
saved.

Productivity:
A large number of people showed up at the fourth edition of HOPES Health Expo to avail free
screening, vaccination and treatment facilitates.

Over 20 types of free screenings were offered in collaboration with some of Pakistan’s notable
institutes. The event also offered free consultation and awareness sessions on 20+ medical and
dental specialties by trained volunteers from all over the city.

The event was inaugurated by Deputy Mayor Arshad Vohra and attended by MNA Adeel
Ahmed, Dr. Farooq Sattar, entertainer Sahir Lodhi, celebrity nutritionist Ghufaira Anees Saad,
actress Nimra Khan and social media celebrities Karachi Vynz. The guests recognized and
appreciated the efforts of HOPES and pledged to help and carry the mission of making
healthcare free and accessible for all.
The event is being held to bring together health workers, corporate professionals and public for
health awareness.

Why Friends of Burns Centre Participated?


Friends of Burns Center enlightened the public about their services and raising awareness
regarding management of burns and inflammable substances and how to prevent from burns
injury.

Feedback:
Young doctors and visitors appreciated the efforts of Burns Centre for providing their services
without any race and discrimination to burns patients / victims 100% Free of Cost. And visitors
encouraged our services and also advised us to keep this awareness activity continue through the
year. The footfall of the event was around 2,000+ people.
