Education, as most people say, is the key to success.

In the Philippines, it is one of the things

Filipinos prioritize and give importance to. It is also said that the youths hold the future of one
nation. Over 27.7 million students are enrolled in the Philippines and about 83% of K-12
students are studying under public schools. These students are under the care and guidance of
public teachers. They are one of the people responsible for the growth and development of
these students. These teachers are essential for the development of the country. They are also
considered as the students’ second parents. They should be honored and be supported by
increasing their salary with the approval of the House Bill no. 6

The House Bill no. 6, a bill introduced by Senator Alan Peter A. Cayetano, is an act providing
for additional support and compensation for educators in basic education. This bill shall be
called the “Teachers Salary Increase Act of 2019”. The bill focuses on the improvement and
the promotion of the welfare and economic well-being of educators. The beneficiaries of this
bill are public school teachers, locally-funded teachers, Philippine Science High School System
teaching and non-teaching personnel, and the non-teaching personnel of DepEd.

The current average of the monthly salary of a public school teacher in the Philippines starts
with P19,600.00 and it differs per level. A lot of public school teachers are in urgent need of
support and despite them having compensation packages, it is still not enough to provide their
daily necessities. These educators labor under a lot of difficulties, especially in the current
times with the inflammation rates on goods and other necessities. Their current compensation
package is not enough, rather, places them in poverty threshold according to Sen. Cayetano.
Since the salary is not enough for other educators, they go to other country with high salaries.
This will cause a type of brain dead that will severely damage the country.

Once the bill is approved, the educators will also receive a new compensation package that
includes medical care allowance of P5,000.00 a month, an additional benefit of P10,000.00, an
allowance of P5,000.00 a month for teaching supplies, and a lot more benefits.

There are more than 800,000 public school teachers in the Philippines. Some may ask where
will the fund be taken from to provide the increase in salary and the compensation package.
The funding will be provided from the savings of the Executive branch of the government. The
Office of the President may determine where the fundings can also be extracted from. The
subsequent funds needed shall be included in the General Appropriations Act for the year
following the approval of this Act.

With this bill, the educators can ensure their well-being as well as the future of their students.
Upon the increased salary, the country can also avoid and prevent teachers from going to other
country to work. Education is needed by everyone and it also becomes the blueprint and guide
of everyone on how they can achieve success and fortune not only for themselves but also for
the country. The teachers are one of those people who can give that education to the youth. By
supporting and taking care of the educators, the future of the country is also being taken care
of.
