THE PROBLEM

Introduction

Today at this very era of humanity founded various ways to make people’s lives better.

We are group of students in TVL-ICT have focus our research on a social-networking websites,

founded on 2004. The most popular social networking site original created and developed by Mark

Zuckerberg (a student in Harvard, and currently the CEO of Facebook). Since it was created it has

become one of the most popular social media site attracting people of all ages from all over the

world with the free creation of a personal profile, where you can provide information about

yourself that can either be made public or private. Depending on your privacy status, upon creating

an account you can add or request friends, like pages, share articles and more.

Facebook can also be used as a connection among acquaintances from a far or from

near your location by messenger to stay in contact with more than one billion users on the planet

and more than thirty million users in the Philippines. This had been one of the greatest

technological breakthroughs that have led to radical changes in the way people communicate and

interact. Facebook is a kind of development of a "virtual" empathy which actually affected friend’s

moods positively, and caused teens to be more empathetic in their everyday lives as well. It seems

that encouraging comments online can put a smile on someone's face and improve moods.

Facebook can also give shy children a way to socialize which might otherwise be lacking

altogether.

2
Hopefully, this virtual training ground can extend into actual face-to-face

interactions. It can help you find people you share interests with , asks you to list who and what

you are into right from the start, meaning common ground with others is much easier to find ,you

will follow those who have something to say that you’re interested in, making connections with

like-minded individuals much easier than is possible offline. By using Facebook there had been a

lot of uses that was practice by student in their daily lives. Our group finds Facebook as a

compelling platform to encourage language development, interpersonal communication, group

collaboration, and of course ICT skills improvement.

The development of information technologies redoubled by the extreme rapid growth

of computing and communication techniques. Based an online collage we can even use this

applications that helps their education and class work activities that includes we read, flashcards,

notely, study groups, Hey! Math challenge, course feeds, campus buddy. Do research and etc.

Given this the students can use this application in that daily activities and projects easier. They

can even have access to sharing information, business promotion, and entertainment and boredom

killer. Our primary goal is to know and show awareness about the effects of Facebook to a student’s

individual life, the purpose of our research is to give an intervention to the problems of using

Facebook that there have been a lot of occurrence stating Facebook that has some effects on the

state of learning for students in the senior high,

Our Study shows how addictive Facebook can be in the use of students on their daily

lives, and on how it affects their state of being, showing the different kinds of features that

Facebook can be addictive in the use of students can really help both the past and the future

researchers on the basis of this kind of study.

Statement of the Problem

There have been problems that occurred in the field of Facebook regarding the addiction

conducted upon Facebook. Occurrence of addiction regarding the usage of Facebook is spreading

throughout the generation while learning or studying.

1. Why are the students addicted to Facebook?

2. Does Facebook distract students from learning? In what way are they distracted?

5
Significance of the Study

The importance of this research is to show awareness and progress to the people,

specifically the students, the parents, and the teachers regarding the improper and proper usage of

Facebook. Also to the people who have already conducted mutually upon our research likewise

to the future researchers who will take sample or to search upon our current research both of sides

are beneficiary to our research, we express great gratitude to the past researchers who have already

conducted alike our research and to give idea and sample of our current research to the future

researchers who will venture forth to the likes of research.

Students- The students are benefited in this study by using the web application Facebook

as a guide, source, and connection between peers and teachers. They can also use Facebook to

improve and develop their ICT skills and avoiding improper usage of Facebook resulting to

addiction and distraction to their main goal.

Teachers- Teachers can use Facebook as a tool of communication in case of

announcements regarding the class activities, assignments, and projects, etc. The usage of

Facebook is also used to monitor the monitor the teacher’s students. They can also use Facebook

as a topic planner and recorder for save topics.

Parents- Facebook can be a tool for monitoring their child and communication tool to

connect to their child. Also by using Facebook they can use chat, and request information on the

teacher regarding their child’s development.

Administrators- The group that gives permission to conduct the recommended program

for the Students to witness

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURES AND STUDIES

This research study cited books, articles and laws, which

a r e r e l e v a n t t o t h e present investigation. It is composed of related literature and

studies, both local and foreign, which contain facts and information on the research

problem at hand. It also provides explanations and logical connections between

previous reaches and present work regarding the factors that affects the students on

using Facebook.

RELATED LITERATURE

David Sotomayor University of Texas at El Paso In these days approximately

90% of the student population has some type of membership or account in the various social sites,

in this literature review we will focus specifically on the largest social site today, Facebook. This

literature review will provide information on whether this social site affects the student’s

performance at school or if it doesn’t, also the history of what Facebook is and some studies

performed on the subject. Now a days we see how students are less interested in school matters,

how they are more interested in social sites compared than using the internet for intellectual

purposes. The social site Facebook has been said to affect the performance of students and does

not affect others. we saw how Facebook in most of the cases does affect directly the grades of

college students, even though in some cases it helps them achieve better grades, by correctly taking

advantage of the tools provided by Facebook, but most students cannot multitask and will get

distracted with this site, and by the studies shown how non-users have better grades than the users

it does have an effect on student GPA.

8
Iran English Radio (2012) stated that Facebook creates the possibility for the

youth to disclose their personal information to others and to have illegitimate relationship with the

opposite gender. Unfortunately such illegitimate relations are often abused by profiteers and have

caused much psychological losses for the youth. Based on a figure issued in May 2011, the number

of Facebook users has reached over 700 million people 70 percent of whom are out of the US.

American users rank first and Indonesian users rank second. Most of Facebook users are from the

American continent. Undoubtedly no one can prevent so many users from membership in these

sites but one should act cautiously towards them. How good it would be if we used the positive

aspects of Facebook and other social networks to reform the condition of the society? For instance

the publication of pictures of Mohammad Bu Azizi the Tunisian 26 year old man in the Facebook,

who set himself on fire as a protest to oppression and despotism in Tunisia, made a greatly

contributed to awakening among nations. Those Tunisian youths who were experts of cyber space

and Internet poured to the streets and declared their wrath and hatred towards the regime of Zain-

al Abedin ben Ali.

Chad Brooks, Business News Daily Senior Writer (2012) Facebook users spend an

average of more than 15 hours a month on the social networking site. While there are plenty who

caution against such intensive use and there are a number of studies detailing the harm Facebook

could potentially cause there also are lots of reports extolling the site's virtues. As the social media

giant prepares for its upcoming initial public offering, here are seven ways Facebook just might

be good for you

9
Improves your heart rate

Spending time on Facebook can help people relax, slow down their heart rate and

decrease stress levels, according to researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology

and the University of Milan. In a study published earlier this year, researchers studied 30 students

and found that a natural high was sparked when they were on the social media network that led to

the relaxed heart rates and lower levels of stress and tension.

Could help you land a job

"Our raters could look at the tone of a subject’s wall post, note the number of friends

they have, peruse their photos to see how social they were and assess their tastes in books and

music," Kluemper told NIU Today in February. "We were able to conclude that after a five-minute

perusal of a Facebook page, raters were able to answer questions regarding the subject about as

reliably as would be expected of a significant other or close friend. "When the researchers asked

the candidates' current employers to evaluate them six months later, they found the initial Facebook

evaluations were a more accurate predictor of success than other tools like personality and IQ tests

Boosts self-esteem

Spending time on the social networking giant also makes people feel good about

themselves, according to research, "Unlike a mirror, which reminds us of who we really are and

may have a negative effect on self-esteem if that image does not match with our ideal, Facebook

can show a positive version of ourselves," Hancock told the Cornell Chronicle. "We're not saying

that it's a deceptive version of self, but it's a positive "Hancock said the study was one of the first

to show a psychological benefit to using Facebook.

10
Helps you get a degree

Facebook may help students get the college degree they've been seeking. Conducted

by researchers at Abilene Christian University, a study found that students who were active on

Facebook were less likely to drop out of school than those who don't use the social network. The

research examined nearly 400 first- and second-year college students. Most of the students that

returned for their second year were significantly more active on Facebook than the ones who did

not.

Improves your love life

Facebook use between couples will continue through the dating process,

the research shows. Throughout the day, 79 percent of couples said they send partners Facebook

messages or chat on the social network. In addition, more than 60 percent would post romantic

messages on their significant other’s Facebook wall. When the relationship ends, more than half

of those surveyed immediately update their status to single, which

RELATED STUDIES

Kristin Trapp ( 2016 ) stated that As if parents did not already have enough to worry

about, now they need to worry about their children displaying negative psychological effects from

overusing Facebook and other social networking sites. Thus far, Rosen has made a 25-year career

out of studying the influences technology has on people. His latest research, which examines teens

and Facebook, was conducted using 1,000 teen surveys and observation of 300 teens actively

studying. It concluded that multiple negative psychological effects could result from spending too

much time on Facebook and other social media sites.

11
Teens who use Facebook frequently may become narcissistic. If you are not already familiar with

that term, dictionary.com describes narcissism as an, "inordinate fascination with oneself;

excessive self-love; vanity." Most likely these are not the character traits you desire for your child.

Teens who have a strong Facebook presence may display psychological disorders,

such as anti-social behaviors, and mania & aggressive tendencies. An anti-social child often does

not consider the effects their actions have on others. This can be quite dangerous, especially during

the already-volatile teen years. Perhaps this should be termed the anti-social media effect.

Although this pretty much goes without saying, being connected to technology on

an ongoing basis can seriously impact a teen's and young adult's education. The negative

educational impacts of regularly checking Facebook during Rosen's 15-minute observation of kids

during study time revealed the following, Middle and high school students, as well as college

students, who checked their Facebook once during the 15-minute study time had lower test grades.

Perhaps this is similar to being a distracted driver. Those students who checked their Facebook

most often also had the lowest rates of reading retention. This probably is not too surprising, but

now it is a proven fact, in case you need to tell your kids.

One positive effect of Facebook on teenagers is that it is a place where teens practice

empathy, having a real impact on their friends' moods. On a happier note, there were a few benefits

to Facebook use, including:

Development of a "virtual" empathy which actually affected friends' moods

positively, and caused teens to be more empathetic in their everyday lives, as well. It seems that

encouraging comments online can put a smile on someone's face and improve moods.

12
Facebook and other social networking sites give shy children a way to socialize which might

otherwise be lacking altogether. Hopefully, this virtual training ground can extend into actual face-

to-face interactions.

Use of Facebook may impact self-esteem in a positive way and allow children to

develop their self-identity. Choosing a profile photo ,listing likes & dislikes, favorites of this-and-

that, quotations, and the like, all "force" your child to become more self-aware.

Marlee Shaulis (2011) stated that *Keeping in touch with family and friends-

Facebook is a great way to keep in touch with your family and friends that live far away. With

instant messaging and even video chat, Facebook is the perfect place to stay connected. With the

status updates, photos, and profile information, it can keep you up to date on the happenings of all

of your close ones. Making new friends- Facebook makes meeting new people extremely easy due

to the fact that it allows you to add up to thousands of friends, and acts as a social melting pot of

the internet. If you comment on someone’s picture then someone else but at the same time you

need to know when to stop using it and do the most important things.* Regarding the Bad Effects

Cyber-bullying and Ruined relationships

Cyber-bullying- On Facebook it is very easy for cyber bullies to thrive. They can

harass and/or gang up on one person even easier than they could in a school environment. There

aren’t moderators that go around monitoring what people say to each other. Anything can be said.

There are also a relatively small amount of parents that have Facebook accounts and keep up with

13
their children’s. More than once I’ve witnessed this form of bullying, whether it be about race,

appearance, intelligence, etc.

Ruined relationships- Facebook is notorious for causing couples to break up. Let’s

face it, no one wants to see their girlfriend/boyfriend telling other people that they look cute, or

liking their pictures, or instant messaging them constantly. It builds up jealousy, which causes

quite a bit of tension in a relationship. The fact that many people try to hook up with others over

Facebook while not realizing that these people are in a relationship doesn’t help the

issue. Insecurity- Facebook is a cause for insecurities due to the fact that it makes people compare

themselves to others. How can you not when all you see is pictures of your friends and

acquaintances on your news feed?

Nick Barricella ( 2012 ) stated that Facebook is a great way to keep in touch with your

family and friends that live far away. With instant messaging and even video chat, Facebook is the

perfect environment to stay connected. With the status updates, photos, and profile information, it

can keep you up to date on the happenings of all of your close ones. Facebook makes meeting new

people extremely easy due to the fact that it allows you to add up to thousands of friends, and acts

as a social melting pot of the internet. If you comment on a friend’s status, and one of their friend’s

comments on it, maybe you two will strike up your own conversation.

This can lead to a great friendship down the road. Most people find it a lot easier to

start a conversation with someone over Facebook than in real life, so a lot of high-school

relationships tend to start there. It's as simple as a "You should text me some time." Facebook

makes expressing yourself very simple with status updates. Between showing-off your favorite

song lyrics, to posting pictures of your new outfit, Facebook is the most common way that people

14
express themselves these days. It is a lot harder to feel embarrassment over the internet than in

person, so people find it easier to "vent" their feelings on Facebook.

Nick Barricella ( 2012 ) also stated that On Facebook it is very easy for cyber bullies

to thrive. They can harass and/or gang up on one person even easier than they could in a school

environment. There aren't moderators that go around monitoring what people say to each other.

Anything can be said. There are also a relatively small amount of parents that have Facebook

accounts and keep up with their children's. More than once I've witnessed this form of bullying,

whether it is about race, appearance, intelligence, etc. Facebook is notorious for causing couples

to break up. Let's face it, no one wants to see their girlfriend/boyfriend telling other people that

they look cute, or liking their pictures, or instant messaging them constantly. It builds up jealousy,

which causes quite a bit of tension in a relationship, the fact that many people try to hook up with

others over Facebook while not realizing that these people are in a relationship doesn't help the

issue. At the end of the day you may have seen your cousin's new outfit or talked to your sister

who is in college, but you still haven't really accomplished anything in the hours that you were on.

Critics of Facebook claim that it is a worldwide distraction and even obsession that

amounts to nothing except for significant amounts of time wasted. There is even a group that is

trying to stunt the influence of Facebook called "Facebook Detox." Facebook is a very stalker

friendly website. Theoretically, someone that you don't even know can say that they go to your

school, add you, and get all of your information. This may include your phone number, house

address, and locations you visit frequently. Not to mention the fact that they will be able to go

through all of your pictures and get to know you completely without you ever knowing. This is a

scary thought, but it is a real issue. Facebook is a cause for insecurities due to the fact that it makes

15
people compare themselves to others. How can you not when all you see is pictures of your friends

and acquaintances on your newsfeed?

IANS (2015) stated that If you are young and love Facebook, keep it to just liking

and minimize your virtual circle of friends to cut the upcoming depression risk.

According to researchers, the social networking site can have positive and negative effects on the

levels of a common stress hormone in teenagers. The team found that having more than 300

Facebook friends increased teenagers' levels of cortisol while those who only posted A"likesA" on

their Facebook friends to encourage them actually decreased their cortisol levels. A "We were able

to show that beyond 300 Facebook friends, adolescents showed higher cortisol levels. We can

imagine that those who have 1,000 or 2,000 friends on Facebook may be subjected to even greater

stress, A" explained Professor Sonia Lupien from University of Montreal."While other important

external factors are also responsible, we estimated that the isolated effect of Facebook on cortisol

was around eight percent,"Lupien noted.

Lupien and her colleagues recruited 88 participants aged 12-17 years who were

asked about their Facebook use, number of friends, self-promoting behaviour, and the supporting

behaviour they displayed toward their friends. Along with these four measures, the team collected

cortisol samples of the participating adolescents. Other studies have shown that high morning

cortisol levels at 13 years increase the risk of suffering from depression at 16 years by 37 percent.

While none of the adolescents suffered from depression at the time of the study, Lupien could not

conclude that they were free from an increased risk of developing it.

Amitabh Shukla (2015) stated Social media is becoming popular and even official

communication is carried out on them as well as personal. Yet, over usage of any media does have

16
its impact, both positive and negative. Before observing the negative effects of Facebook, let us

have cursory look at the positive effects of Facebook.

Improvements in moods: As one is able to communicate with far off friends. By

being in touch with friends one feels good. Mood uplifts and one feels close to one’s loved ones

Shyness goes away: Many teenagers go through a phase when they do not want to interact with

others. Browsing on Facebook helps them communicate with others without interaction. Perhaps,

the interaction can be after a relationship has developed so that the comfort levels are high when

one meets each other. It is a good forum for shy children to socialize permits one to develop self-

identity: Facebook is a ground for face-to-face communication which improves self-identity. One

can improves one’s communication skill and also relate better to people

Isolation: One can suffer from isolation as one will tend to be glued to the computer

and move out of the house and meet people. Normal socializing that is interacting with people is

also essential. A shy child might prefer to communicate only through Facebook only and otherwise

Putting on weight: One may put on weight also as one will sit in front of the computer for a long

time and eat. Naturally, one will not have much exercise and they will suffer from obesity abnormal

symptoms: Surfing Facebook does show abnormal symptoms among many teenagers such as

depression, excessive aggression, abnormal anxiety or even normal anxiety. Those suffering from

social anxiety tend to immerse themselves in front of Facebook. Teenagers usual have emotional

problems and are very conscious of their self-image, their bodies and their looks. If socially, they

feel inferior they tend to avoid social interactions. Obviously, they would like to spend hours sitting

writing for the Facebook

17
Bad for the eyes: Too much exposure to the computer is bad for the eyes. Teenagers

must go out and spend time in outdoor activities and relish the fresh air, rather than remain glued

to the computer

Communication with strangers: On Facebook communication, it is possible that one

might end up building up relationships with strangers, who can turn out to be criminals as well.

Teenagers are vulnerable and are easily susceptible to outside influences. Their lifestyles are

changing and want to build up relationships with people who are very hi-fi in their outlook. In this

process, they try to communicate with strangers who perhaps can be very harmful to them

Lacks emotional connection: There is lack of emotional connectivity since one does

not meet the other person. Feelings when shared in person have more impact than on Facebook.

The feelings of care and warmth are there when the communication is face to face. There is a

decrease in face-to face communication. Face-to- face communication helps better messaging

Promotes laziness: Sitting in front of computer and browsing through Facebook can lead to

laziness. It is a sheer waste of time

Causes distractions: Browsing Facebook does distract one’s mind from many other

activities. One can be involved in constructive activities that keeps one’s mind healthy. Merely

spending hours on Facebook and conversing via it is not healthy

Lack of body language communication: Body language conveys a lot. In

Facebook browsing there is no body language communication as one does not interact with another

person.

Unhealthy sex approach: On Facebook one tends to communicate on unhealthy

sexual practices. There is no healthy sexual interaction as one is not meeting each other physically.

18
Merely communicating via Facebook can prove to be detrimental to one’s overall self-image and

also to mental growth. Perverted practices can be discussed or the person on the other side may be

a pervert and wants to communicate sexually. Later on he or she may take undue advantage of the

person’s weaknesses and try to meet the person

Julie D. Andrews (2011) stated that An important benefit seen in the statistics

above is the ability of Facebook to make college students feel socially connected, with a greater

sense of community. This can be beneficial in boosting students’ self-esteem. Past studies have

shown that students who are active on Facebook are more likely to participate in extra-curricular

activities. But, as we have also seen in the news, social media can also have a negative effect on

emotional health when abused by cyberbullies who harass and torment peers.

Doug Fodeman and Marje Monroe stated that Demonize it, or extol its

admissions and alumni-network virtues; the use of Facebook in our schools is likely to elicit strong

opinions. One thing is for certain, the use of Facebook repeatedly comes up in discussions about

Internet safety, age-appropriate exposure, and student online behavior. Though many schools have

different policies for using or accessing Facebook, we share many of the same concerns. Through

our Internet safety organization, ChildrenOnline.org, we've surveyed the Internet behavior of

thousands of Independent school children and teens. We've learned a great deal about their use

of Facebook and the inherent issues they face, as well as their schools, because Facebook is one

of the 2 most popular websites for independent school students across grades 4 - 12. (The other

site is YouTube.) We would like to summarize our shared concerns and address the issues that

impact our students, and our communities.

19
And for those schools that allow access to Facebook, how do we reconcile our

concerns that younger and younger children are using this adult social network? Four years ago it

was rare to learn of a child under 7th grade with an account. Last fall, for the first time, 4th graders

began reporting to us that they had Facebook accounts. We now estimate that about 60 - 70% of

7th graders have accounts and the number is higher for 8th graders. These children are too young

to be using Facebook or other adult social networks for the reasons detailed below.

The greatest motivating factor for children to use technology in grades 7 and up

is to connect to others; to socialize. Their irresistible need to connect with their peers, coupled

with the development of 24/7 accessible technologies, can make the use of sites like Facebook all

consuming. We have concerns for children and teens today growing up in a world where they are

wired 24/7 without a break. For many of our kids there is little or no "down time." Some have

difficulty disengaging from their social life. For some, it even raises their anxiety level to be

without their cell phones for a few hours! We don't believe this is healthy for them. Couple this

false sense of privacy with the feeling of anonymity and lack of social responsibility that often

develops from using text-centered telecommunications, and we see that many students post

embarrassing, humiliating, denigrating and hurtful content in both text, photos and videos. We

need to teach them that NOTHING IS PRIVATE online, especially their social networks. We

need to show them examples of the serious consequences that have occurred to those whose

egregious online behavior has been made public. Students have been expelled from high schools

and colleges. Students have been denied acceptances to intern programs, admission to independent

high schools, colleges, and jobs at summer camps. Students, and their families, have been sued

for slander and defamation of character. Students, and their parents, have been arrested.

20
All because of the content they've posted in their "private" social network

accounts. People are trolling their accounts. Hackers, scammers, reporters, police, high school

and college admissions officers, employers, parents and summer camp directors....Adults ARE

looking and the kids don't get it! Also, they don't realize that the instant they post something to

Facebook (or MySpace or YouTube, etc.), they've just lost control and ownership of that

content. Try reviewing the privacy rights of Facebook with your middle and high school

students. It is quite an eye opener!

On the site PERFORMANCING and a guest blogger stated that (2012) he

popularity of the social networking sites increased rapidly in the last decade. This is probably due

to the reason that college and university students as well as teens used it extensively to get global

access. These social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook have become a raging craze

for everyone nowadays. The negative effects of these social networking sites overweigh the

positive ones. These sites have caused some potential harm to society. The students become

victims of social networks more often than anyone else. This is because of the reason that when

they are studying or searching their course material online, they get attracted to these sites to kill

the boredom in their study time, diverting their attention from their work. Students mostly use

slang words or shortened forms of words on social networking sites. They start relying on the

computer grammar and spelling check features.

This reduces their command over the language and their creative writing skills.

Students, while searching and studying online, get attracted to using social media sites and

sometimes they forget why they are using internet. This wastes their time and sometimes students

are not able to deliver their work in the specified time frame. Students get low grades in school

due to lack of the desired information and writing skills. The student’s motivational level reduces

21
due to the use of these social networking sites. They rely on the virtual environment instead of

gaining practical knowledge from the real world. The excessive use of these sites affecting the

mental as well as physical health. Students do not take their meals on time and take proper rest.

They take excessive amount of coffee or tea to remain active and focused which effects negatively

on their health. The overuse of these sites on a daily basis has many negative effects on the physical

and mental health of students making them lethargic and unmotivated to create contact with the

people in person. The parents should check and balance on their children when they use the

internet. They should be on guard whether they are using it for appropriate time period or not. The

peers and teachers should also help students make them aware of the negative effects and explain

what they are losing in the real world by sticking to these social networking sites, automatically

sends out a notification to their friend list to start the dating cycle over again.

Chapter III

RESEARCH METHOLOGY AND PROCEDURES

In this part of the research our group will be facilitating in handling out questionnaires to

be given out for the students in the University of the Visayas Main Campus, Senior High School

students. The questionnaire will contain quantitative questions regarding the proper usage of

Facebooks to us students in our daily lives the purpose on the questionnaires is to gather and obtain

data information whether Facebook can help or problemize a student in daily bases. This applies

to the surroundings people of the students in his or her environment including teachers, parents,

22
and peers. All throughout this chapter we our group will be conducting a survey for the students

whether they have used Facebook for benefits or for downfall in daily bases.

Design

Methodology involves the procedures of describing, explaining and predicting phenomena

so as to solve the problem stated, theoretical analysis of the procedures applied to a field of study

and Research design direct the researcher in planning and implementing the study in a way that is

most likely to achieve the intended goal, refers to the overall strategy that one may choose to

integrate the different components of the study in a coherent and logical manner, this is done in

order to ensure that one effectively addresses the research problem. This constitutes the blueprint

or the roadmap for the collection, measurement, and analysis of data strategy of investigation

conceived so as to obtain answers to research question. This chapter describes the research design

and methodology, including sampling and data collection and analysis regarding the conduction

of the survey Questionnaires in this Quantitative descriptive research. Our research is a Qualitative

Descriptive research because it describes the factor that affects the students regarding the proper

usage of Facebook. Our study will be applicable with the help of the data that we have gathered

relating the factors that affects the students on the proper usage of Facebook, with the help of all

the previous data that was gathered. We aim to complete our research study regarding the proper

usage of Facebook.

Environment

We aim to conduct our research study and have a survey in the University of The

Visayas Main Campus to learn about the students regarding the proper usage of Facebook, on how

they are affected in using Facebook in various methods on various reasons. For this University has

23
a lot of Facebook users and other social network users. So this has taken our attention to conduct

a research on this university.

Respondents

We aim to conduct our research survey questionnaires on the University Of The Visayas

Senior High Students. Basing on how they are affected in using Facebook in their daily lives that

can either help or bring them down or cause them to embark on an educational purpose.
