8.1. Create a calendar showing the beginning and the end of daylight saving time for the years 2009–
2016.

Year Daylight Saving Time Daylight Saving Ends

Begins at 2:00 a.m. at 2:00 a.m.
2009 March 8 November 1
2010 March 14 November 7
2011 March 13 November 6
2012 March 11 November 4
2013 March 10 November 3
2014 March 9 November 2
2015 March 8 November 1
2016 March 13 November 6

My answer:

Determine the starting date for daylight saving time means that the clock is set one hour early. With
doing that, it is already saving more energy since people will spend more time for doing their
outdoor activity. When the date turns to the daylight saving ends, it means that we already go one
hour ahead so we can reset the clock to the standard.

8.10. Convert the following speed limits from miles per hour (mph) to kilometers per hour (km/h)
and from feet per second (ft/s) to meters per second (m/s). Think about the relative magnitude of
values as you go from mph to ft/s and as you go from km/h to m/s. You may use Microsoft Excel to
solve this problem.

My answer:

Given/knowing:

Miles = 1,60934 kilometers

Miles = 5280 feet

Feet = 0.3048 meter

Km = 1000 meter

Hour = 3600 second

Asking:

1. miles per hour (mph) to kilometers per hour (km/h)

2. feet per second (ft/s) to meters per second (m/s).

8.18. Determine the speed of a point on the earth’s surface in ft/s, m/s, mph, km/h. State your
assumptions
