TITLE

To Reduce Activity, Perform Time Using Nut-Bolt Fixture

OBJECTIVE:

 To check and reduce time for activity using fixture.

 To compare performance.
 Two hand (Right and Left) coordination with Eye.

APPARATUS:
 Fixture
 Nuts
 Bolts
 Stopwatch
 Worksheet
 Washers

THEORY
NUT-BOLT FIXTURE

Definition:
Nuts are a type of hardware fastener with a tapped inner diameter. They are used with a mating
threaded bolt or rod to secure components. There are many sizes and varieties of nuts; each with a
fastening purpose. Some nuts can be applied without tools, and others may have special designs to
prevent the nut from loosening.
A bolt is a form of threaded fastener with an external male thread. Bolts are very closely related
to screws.
Figure no 1.1 Nut-Bolt
A washer is a thin plate (typically disk-shaped, but sometimes square) with a hole (typically in the
middle) that is normally used to distribute the load of a threaded fastener, such as a bolt or nut.

Figure no 1.2 Washer

Fixture is a bolt-nut and washer fastening apparatus. It as hexagonal shapes hole at top for fixing
bolts into which washers and then nuts are inserted.

Figure no 1.3 Apparatus

The purpose of the apparatus is to demonstrate how work time cane be reduced using different
techniques such as use of fixture for fastening nut bolt allows both hands to work at same time
with high efficiency due to which work tie is greatly reduced.
A stopwatch as showing in the Figure 1.4 a handheld timepiece designed to measure the amount
of time that elapses between its activation and deactivation. A large digital version of a stopwatch
designed for viewing at a distance, as in a sports stadium, is called a stopwatch.
In manual timing, the clock is started and stopped by a person pressing a button. In fully automatic
time, both starting and stopping are triggered automatically, by sensors.

APPLICATIONS
Typically, the jigs and fixtures found in a machine shop are for machining operations. Other
operations, however, such as assembly, inspection, testing, and layout, are also areas where work
holding devices are well suited.
Assembly
• Welding fixtures
• Mechanical-assembly fixtures
(Riveting, stapling, stitching, pinning, etc.)
• Soldering fixtures
Inspection
• Mechanical-inspection fixtures
• Optical-inspection fixtures
• Electronic-inspection fixtures
Finishing
• Painting fixtures
• Plating fixtures
• Polishing fixtures
• Lapping fixtures
• Honing fixtures
Miscellaneous
• Layout templates
• Testing fixtures
• Heat-treating fixtures

DESIGN AND MODELING

The fixture was designed in AutoCAD. The design is very important in Manufacturing
Engineering processes. The whole fixture has dimension 10×4.5 having ten wholes which are
equidistant from each other having diameter 1.

PROCEDURE
1. Place the apparatus on the table and Student should stand like showing in the below
mentioned Figure 1.6

Figure no 1.6

2. The timekeeper starts the chronometer/Stopwatch like figure 1.7

Figure no 1.7
3. First fasten the nut bolts without using the fixture and record the time like figure 1.8

Figure no 1.8

4. Now fasten the nuts and bolts using the fixture apparatus and again record the time like
figure 1.9

Figure no 1.9

5. Repeat the same process 3 to 4 times for accurate results.

6. Find out the difference between both activities.
