Purpose
Ionization-chamber radiation survey meters are
portable, instruments used for dosimetry in nuclear
medicine, radiotherapy, and radiology departments.
Dosimetry is the determination of the amount, rate,
and distribution of radiation emitted from a source of
ionizing radiation. Ionization chambers are typically
used to measure radiation intensity (exposure rates)
and quantity (dose equivalents) for relatively high
radiation intensities, such as the output of an x-ray
tube or linear accelerator, although some can measure
low-intensity radiation such as leakage through barri-
