PROGRAM STUDI SI ILMU KEPERAWATAN

SEKOLAH TINGGI ILMU KESEHATAN SURABAYA
SURABAYA
2019
Hello my friends, I stand here to tell my dream ahead. In here, Iam a
nursing student in Stikes Surabaya. I’am still in five semester. But I have a
dream for the future to be what I want to be. My dream is so neatly structured to
achieve a goal. Every step by step, I followes the flow with the prayer readinng.
Because I’am the first child of woman in my family, in evitably I’am demanded
to be better and as a role model for my brother. Therefore I majored in this
because of my pure desire to become a nurse without coercion from my parents.

I want to be the best graduate at the level of nursing study program or at

the campus level. Because it is one of my many missions to see the proud smile
of my own parents.

My dream is that I would love to become a surgical nurse. I have been in

love with surgery since the beginning of the semester. I also like seeing Korean
drama that tells about the life of a surgeon, because in Korea also the medical
facilities are also complete and a lot of material about surgery and illness that I
don’t get on campus.

Yes even though, I’m actually a little afraid of blood and injuries, but it
didn’t undo my intention to become a surgical nurse, I chose surgery because for
my own theraphy so I wasn’t afraid of blood and injury.

But to undergo surgical education must go through a master's own

surgical specialist. I have also searched Google sites, the education that I was
looking for was in any university. I don't have to target studying abroad, if
studying in my own country is enough in my opinion. I will remain proud of
myself.

Yes hopefully my little dream can come true. Because I also have to do
the Nurse profession first and work first to earn a living. I want my master's
education to be funded by my husband later hehe :D. It's called a dream, it's okay
if you have high imagination, there's nothing wrong with all this.

But on the other side besides being a surgical nurse, I want to be a

teaching lecturer at a famous campus. I do not know my dream this one is very
random, even though as far as I know, I am very rigid in terms of speaking, I
prefer to act and think. It might also be able to become public speaking one day,
inspiring women to pursue their careers. Women do not have to be housewives,
they also have a very big desire in a career.

If I may tell a little, my brothers and sisters all careers in the field of
health all. On average in the field of psychology and nurses only, no one in the
field of doctors. Maybe one day my child will take the path of medicine, Amin.

Then my brothers, sisters and aunts have worked at the well-known

International Hospital in Surabaya, the Mitra Keluarga Hospital in Surabaya and
Sidoarjo. He said if I graduate later, I would be drawn to work at the hospital
there. Who also wants to reject a request like that, surely there isn't. Being able
to work in an International Hospital is also a matter of pride in my opinion.
Nursing care services and facilities there are not haphazard, the costs are also not
to be asked again.

Therefore, my dream also wants to work at the hospital. He said, there

were many diseases that I could study later that I didn't even get on campus
material. In accordance with technological developments, the development of
disease is increasingly widespread.

One day, I was told about the illness he got while working there. I've
also been tested by him about the lessons I remember and what I got on campus
. He is like that too because at any time I will not forget the material that I got.
He also advised me to always enjoy my college and education, in seeking
knowledge of course.

I also want to someday want to establish a community health community.

I was able to recruit several potential students in this regard, look for people who
thirst for health knowledge, and can be applied in the local community. Even in
this very modern era, there are still many myths about health that are not
necessarily true. There are still many people who rely on smart people (like
shamans) rather than trusted health workers. It is something like this that we
must clarify again from the viewpoint of the community. Especially for people
from remote areas (in villages).

Actually a lot of my dream list, of course it's true the main thing is the
target of education. Because if I am highly educated, the opportunity for my
work will be even greater, and also I can earn more money. If I later have some
more money, I also want to build a home for drug rehabilitation in my beloved
city. Because in my city (Sidoarjo) there is no rehabilitation house for drug users.

In addition, I also want to establish a nursing home. I often hear the news
that the elderly are left alone by their children. Even in their old age, they are still
told to work side jobs. It's a sad thing isn't it. Even though in their old age, they
should be able to enjoy their old age. Therefore I would love to build a house for
themselves, a heaven's home for parents.

Building things like this is my own pride. Besides getting a lot of

knowledge, on the other hand also get blessings in life. Are not we highly
educated in order to serve the community, and change the world for the better.
Not just work and work alone continuously. At least the education we take is not
in vain, there are still many things we can do.

Oh yeah right one more, almost forgetfulness hehehehe. Actually, besides

my story above, there is a wish I haven't told. How many my imipian? Why don't
people say they are dreaming of being blamed. Who knows, it could really be
right, Alhamdulillah. My dream on this one is the most important thing that I
have to take first. Besides I have to take the path of master education that I want
(this is mandatory) that will be financed by my husband later. I want to establish
my own clinic, where the employees are my closest friends who accompany me
from zero.

Do not ask who I will tell to build a clinic for me, obviously my husband
later hehehe. I want to establish a health clinic which is covered in all fields of
health, such as nurses, nutritionists, pharaohs (Pharmacists and Pharmaceutical
Technical Personnel), midwives, and doctors. I want all fields to be one to work
together to prosper the lives of the people. And of course with the help of my
beloved husband later, I will be him as the director of our clinic. I'm so noble,
right? . I will not forget the services of my husband who has helped me with
sincerity

Actually from my dreams that have been told above, have covered in
several ways the real role of nurses. Aside from providing nursing care, as a
researcher (what are the problems that occur in the community, and how do we
overcome these problems, starting from small things to help them), as a
community aide (such as serving the community fully and country).

I only advised the people out there. Don't give up on your dream right
now, chase that dream. and do not underestimate a profession, because we do not
know in the future what we will be like. All professions are not bad, it's just
human's view that evaluates the bad side of our profession.Allah SWT say, every
job is the same regardless of who that person is, a job, born in a rich family or
not.

being a nurse is not an easy thing, but from some point of view people
always underestimate our work, because we are a professional profession from
doctors. there is a lot of news about a nurse who has been sued for treating an
injured patient. if you trace the story again, it is completely wrong in our
position. we are also sworn in during the profession.

well, from the dream that I told you that is my dream going forward, for
the sake of advancing the name of nurses in Indonesia. who knows that in the
future my dream will come true as above, surely my salary will later offset the
salary of a doctor.

So I'll end the story about my dream that is so big, hopefully it will be
fulfilled someday, Amin. And sorry for Mrs. Ifa, I don't know what else to say to
reach the target of the task, which is six pages. Because what I told you above
was from A-Z but it still hasn't reached the target task that you want.
Medical-Surgical Nursing: The Backbone Of The Nursing Profession

November 1st through 7th is Medical-Surgical Nurses Week, a time to celebrate

the medical-surgical nurses among us. Many of us have a pretty specific job
description, working alongside specialist physicians and surgeons. There are
psych nurses, urology nurses, neurology nurses, and others who focus on one
branch of medicine. But some of us are more general, working with a variety of
patients and specialities. Medical-surgical nursing may be a broader field than
other subsets of nursing, but it’s just as important. In some ways, medical-
surgical nurses are the backbone of our entire profession.
The History of Medical-Surgical Nursing

Medical-surgical nursing has a very long history. In fact, it can be viewed as one
of the first kinds of nursing to ever develop. In ancient and historical times,
before the advent of modern medicine as we know it today, it was common in
many places for some women to act as de facto nurses. Medical care, which
was often based on medicinal plants that occurred locally, was often
administered in temples or other places of worship. These women didn’t really
have formal training, but a combination of experience and knowledge handed
down from others informed their work.

In the 17th century, generalized nursing practices took another step forward.
Saint Vincent de Paul, a French priest, began encouraging women who acted as
nurses to undergo training. However, the first nursing school wasn’t established
until 1876, when modern medicine was beginning to develop.

It was at this early nursing school, in Kaiserworth, Germany, that Florence

Nightingale received her training. Nightingale is widely credited as the founder
of modern nursing, and eventually founded her own nursing school in London.
Partly due to her efforts, nursing became a very important profession. In the
United States, nursing modernized rapidly during the late 19th and early 20th
centuries. The number of hospitals nationwide grew from only 149 in 1873 to
4,400 in 1910. With this growth, new positions for nurses developed, and
nursing gained respectable social status.
At this time, nurses were almost always women. In fact, all the way up until the
second wave feminist movement and resulting cultural changes in the 1960s,
nursing was one of the few professional occupations available for women.

This may just sound like a generalized history of nursing, but actually, most
early nurses were basically medical-surgical nurses. Early nursing curricula often
separated nursing into medical, surgical, and disease prevention. However, by
the 1930s, advocates recommended a single, interdisciplinary approach to
nursing education. This integrated approach educated nurses in a wide variety
of medical topics and specialties. It wasn’t until the 1960s and 1970s that
separate educational programs began to develop for nursing specialties.

Medical-Surgical Nursing Today

Today, medical-surgical nursing is its own specialty, and many nurses work in
this field at some point in their career. While it’s often been regarded as a
stepping stone toward other types of nursing, many nurses continue in this field
throughout their career. Once considered an entry-level job position, medical-
surgical nursing has now gained the respect it deserves, as an important
profession.

Medical-surgical nurses work with patients in a variety of settings, including

hospitals, assisted living facilities, hospice centers, independent medical
practices, and urgent care centers. Medical-surgical nurses have an impressively
large skill set, a result of working across a variety of medical specialties and
subspecialties. They’re knowledgeable about all aspects of human health,
including psychology and mental health, and work with patients of all ages. It’s
not uncommon for medical-surgical nurses to also act as advocates for patients,
and nearly all adult patients are seen at some point in their care by a medical-
surgical nurse.

It’s a rigorous, challenging job, testing your skills every day. It’s not for
everyone, but many nurses thrive in this specialty. By “many,” we actually mean
a lot of nurses: over 400,000 out of a total of 2.9 million registered nurses in the
United States. It’s actually the most common nursing specialty.

Celebrating Medical-Surgical Nurses

Medical-surgical nursing is a job where you experience new things and acquire
new skills on a daily basis. It’s a challenging role, but for many nurses, it’s also a
passion. This week is a time to celebrate and acknowledge the many medical-
surgical nurses among us.
