INTRODUCTION
M/s. SASTHA SOIL TESTING SERVICES, Madurai was entrusted with the work and the investigation work was completed on 16th March 2019 according to the instructions
from Str.er.Jameel. / The hard stratum is below 4.50 m from NGL.
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR STRUCTURE.
Regular foundation with wide footing below – 4.50m from NGL (or)
Combined foundation with wide footing below – 4.50m from NGL (or)
Use 375 mm Dia - 450 mm Dia Bored cast-in-situ pile foundation up to 10.00 m from NGL (or)
Raft foundation at– 4.50m from NGL (or)
According to Structural Engineers recommendations according to loading conditions.
SEISMIC ZONE - Seismic Zone ii, Zone factor Z= 0.10.Seismic intensity: Moderate. Importance Factor I = 1.0
THE SCOPE OF THE WORK INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING
1. Drilling of 2 no’s of bore holes at various depths
2. Collecting soil/ Rock samples at regular intervals
3. Conducting S P T at 1.5m intervals if soil/soft rock is present, the hard rock is drilled and core recovery is done in case hard rock is met with.
4. Conducting laboratory tests on samples collected
5. Submitting reports with recommendations for foundations
DESCRIPTION OF STRUCTURE. The proposed structure is a Hospital structure; the exact details of columns are not available at the time of
preparation of this report.
SOIL INVESTIGATION-The field investigation works were carried by using 1 set of rotary mechanical drilling rigs in the following order
a. Mobilsation of rotary rig.
b. Collection of undisturbed samples, disturbed samples, soft rock, rock samples ( core samples )
c. Field investigation, lab tests conducted as per IS-1892 and IS- 2720.
1.1 FIELD SAMPLING
Out of Two nos of bore hole locations selected two nos of bore holes were done for each block and only 2 nos of bore holes of 150 mm Dia was
made at the locations. Investigations were conducted at 10.00 m, depths from existing N G L.
SOIL PROFILE
1. FILLED UP SOIL, - 0.00m - 1.50 m
2. FINE SAND, MEDIUM SAND - 1.50m - 10.00 m

GROUND WATER TABLE.
At the time of geotechnical investigation 16/03/19 the ground water table was encountered with in drill depth of 10.00 m, water table below 10.00 m
from NGL almost in the area, we have ascertained the water table depth in the nearby areas, after drilling bore holes, the depth of water level is
measured from NGL on the following days.
SEISMIC ZONE - Seismic Zone ii, Zone factor Z=.10.Seismic intensity: Low. Importance Factor I = 1.0
DISCUSSION ON FOUNDATION
From the sub soil profile and field test data the soil / rock is found to be well compact. The hard strata is from 4.50 m from NGL
RECOMMENDATIONS
Regular foundation with wide footing below – 4.50m from NGL (or)
Combined foundation with wide footing below – 4.50m from NGL (or)
Use 375 mm Dia - 450 mm Dia Bored cast-in-situ pile foundation up to 10.00 m from NGL (or)
Raft foundation at– 4.50m from NGL (or)
According to Structural Engineers recommendations according to loading conditions.
THE SCOPE OF THE WORK INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING
Use factor of safety 3.0 and above.
1. All footings, rafts, Plinth beams should rest on a mud mat of 150 mm thick Min laid in PCC 1:4:8
2. All foundation works should be done in dry conditions, after pumping out the slush water from foundation earth works. High speed pump should be
made readily be available at the foundation site for de watering works.
3. M -25 concrete grade and above is recommended for foundation works.
4. Excavated soil / Rock should not be piled up near the vicinity of the excavation to avoid overburden, surcharge which will lead to caving in.
5. Back filling - Excavated soil without clay/ selected graded soils

Location/ Project description -Objective of the study/ purpose and scope. .This work involves the following sub works:
Like standard penetration test in four different nearby locations shown in the map accompanied. Two bore hole is done .The soil samples collected
from the bore hole is tested for the following properties
1. Engineering properties of soil and rocks.
In over the entire site area of 800 sq.ft areas approximately, 2 No of bore hole is drilled for Standard penetration tests to know the SBC of soil strata
each block, of total two connecting blocks. It is observed that in general the area is covered by Filled up Soil, Fine Sand, and Medium Sand. The bore
hole were drilled up to 10.00 meters depth, and We have ascertained the water table depth after drilling bore holes on the following days, the water
table in the site area is below 10.00 m. Hard stratum of soil is below 4.50 m from existing ground level.
In general the area is covered with Filled up Soil, Fine Sand, Medium Sand the bore hole is done at the Site on 16/03/2019.
At the Locations shown by the clients as per the sketch enclosed.
Conclusion /Suggestion
Regular foundation with wide footing below – 4.50m from NGL (or)
Combined foundation with wide footing below – 4.50m from NGL (or)
Use 375 mm Dia - 450 mm Dia Bored cast-in-situ pile foundation up to 10.00 m from NGL (or)
Raft foundation at– 4.50m from NGL (or)
According to Structural Engineers recommendations according to loading conditions.
Excavated soil should not be piled up near the vicinity of the excavation to avoid overburden, surcharge which will lead to caving in.
High speed water pumps should be made readily available to pump out the water immediately from the excavated area.

According to1. Terzaghi and pecks. Settlement in mm for a given / assumed load of 2000 kN per /Column
Footing, Assumed size of footing 3.00 m x 3.00m, Es = 45000 kPa, µ =0.3, q = 2000 kN , Ip = 0.82
S1= Immediate settlement, µ = poisons ratio of foundation soil, E = Young’s modulus of foundation soil, q = Contact Pressure at Base of Foundation
B = width of foundation , Ip = influence factor. S1 = ( 1 - µ2 / E ) qB
S1 = ( 0.91/45000 ) x 2000 x 3 x .82 = 0.099493 = 10 mm ( IS 1904 – 1986 )
Say a settlement of 10 mm, however take a settlement of 45 mm (because According to1. Terzaghi and pecks we get a settlement of 90 mm)
Soil improvement Techniques
Ground improvement is required for this site
Soil improvement Techniques is required for this site.
STONE COLUMNS
Using gravel or stones are used for the column, gravel or stones are used, the result is a stone column. The granular material commonly ranges in
gradation from about 6 to 40 mm.
Stone columns are to be used in sand deposits (fine sand). They are generally inserted on a volume displacement basis, that is, a 600 mm diameter
hole is excavated to the desired depth, (Augur method) the depth to be 4.50 m to 9.0 m, and sometimes the hole requires casing to maintain the shaft
diameter. However remove the top 0.50 m filled up soil and do the stone column work, Stone is introduced into the cavity in small quantities at every
450 mm and rammed, while simultaneously withdrawing any casing. The rammed stone increases the drilled diameter of the stone column shaft, and
it is necessary to record the hole depth, so do the foundation work from or below 4.50m from NGL , use combined footing, Regular column, Raft
Foundation.

LIME CONCRETE BASE OF 150MM

LIME MIX WITH CRUSHER SAND AND GRANULAR MATERIAL COMMONLY RANGES IN GRADATION FROM ABOUT 6 TO 40
MM.GRADATION BELOW FOOTING OF – 4.50 M Using gravel or stones are used for the BASE, gravel or stones are used, the result is a stone
Base. The granular material commonly ranges in gradation from about 6 to 40 mm. The rammed stone increases the sbc of soil so do the foundation
work from or below 4.50m from NGL, use combined footing/ Column foundation.
