The two kids I choose to observe are named Andres and Jade, Andres is 1year and 5
months old and Jade is 2 years with 3 months. Andres is nicknamed “Jack-Jack “, in total
there are 6 kids in the living room currently all doing something different, there are 3
adults present, the mother, the grandma, and an aunt. Jack-Jack is in his baby seat eating
pudding, while Jade is currently having her tantrum about wanting LOL dolls.
2. Cognitive play
There is a table for kids set in the middle of the living room, it has set play-doh, coloring
paper with crayons and next to the table is a box filled with a variety of toys. Jack-Jack is
Finally put down and he is sitting on the carpet with a toy he grabbed from the box, it was
a spiderman action figure, I heard from the mother he is obsessed with spiderman.
Meanwhile, jade ends her tantrum and is now holding a barbie in each hand. Minutes later
Jack-Jack throws the spiderman down and grabs the play-doh and starts squishing it, they
sit him at the kid's table because he started making a mess on the carpet. Meanwhile Jade
saw him playing and she joins in. Afterward, Jade was hungry and just left everything she
was playing with there and she started pointing at the kitchen so she was getting fed
minutes after. Meanwhile, jack Jack starts getting upset, usually at this time he takes his
nap, so he was probably upset for that reason. Jade was finishing up eating and jack jack
fell asleep. Jade loves getting read books so her mom started reading her a book called “
The Snowy Day”. Jade afterward fell asleep and that is how their playtime took place and
the everyday routine.
3. Social play
a) Playing with the playdoh was an activity Jack-Jack was by himself playing and was very
peaceful and as he was playing he was singing. Jade, when she was playing with her dolls,
was trying to make the dolls having a conversation where she was trying to talk and
pronounce words. These activities did not determine as much as other activities that
could have been given to a child to determine their social skills but had engagement
between each other at one point. Adult interaction was not very present other than the
supervising and the reading time, the mother nor the rest of the family members did not
engage enough.
4. Conclusion
How much infants need the engagement from the parent, they are very playful and
communicate differently at times, how confident they feel happy and build their own
environment. I would recommend the parents being more interactive with the children,
adding more activities that will benefit their social, physical and communication skills like
for example taking them to the park, they usually don't go out at all.
