Blog Post on Twitter and Podcasting

I learned that Twitter is a very useful social network for personal and professional
use. Twitter benefits teachers, students, and parents in many ways. When you
sign up for a twitter account, you can follow others that are in your professional
learning network simply by searching for them. You can search for celebrities,
organizations, and other teachers that you want to follow. When you follow
them, you can read their tweeter feed to learn about the organization and get
inspirational ideas. I follow organizations such as cobb, stem, ford, and leaders
in the school and district. In twitter, I can learn about what inspires that person or
organization by looking at who they follow and what they post on their tweeter
feed. This inspires me to have a different perspective of teaching practices. I
joined twitter early on in 2009 and did not actively use it. More recently in the
past two years, I have been encouraged to tweet regularly. I am beginning to
use twitter to post ideas that I am working on in my grad class and brag on my
students in class when I want to post something we are learning. In this module’s
reading content, I added many followers and searched for hashtags that serve
as key words that might be included in a post. I joined #kinderchat #mind craft
education, and #fordeschat. I enjoy using twitter because you can visually see
what is going on in other schools, classrooms, and read educational articles that
contributes toward learning about best teaching practices of today.

Podcasting
My first podcast: My Journey Through STEM

Podcasting is so interesting! I previewed anchor.fm, audacity, garageband, and

sound trap. I searched and subscribed to Teachercast and Tedtalks podcasts. I
stored the podcasts in my itunes account. I really enjoyed listening to these
audio clips that apply to my personal and professional interests. The teacher
cast podcast seemed more like a conversation between two professionals.
These professionals were asking questions and the dialogue between the two
kept it interesting to listen to. The tedtalks podcast was a recording of an
inspirational speaker by Adam Galinsky. He spoke about, “How to speak up for
yourself.” You could use podcast as way to inspire student’s writing and
continue adding chapters or episodes to their story. I think teachers can
collaborate a strategy they have tried and share pitfalls and accomplishments.
The title can be catchy and appeal to other teachers and students in your
professional network. Students of different learning needs can benefit by
stopping and reviewing information. They can control what they are listening to
and choose what support they need. My first podcast tells my story of my
journey through STEM. I used podomatic to store my episode, and used a voice
over app called, Voice Record to create a high- quality sound. I then uploaded
the file to the google drive and saved in downloads as an M4a file.

Amy,

I am also hesitant to use twitter in the classroom, but I am getting more and
more comfortable with the social media tool to spread ideas to other
professionals. Twitter can be useful for students to showcase something they
have learned and for their parents too. I also added many hashtags to follow
groups and organizations. I even followed celebrities. I like that you can
personalize and brand yourself in Twitter.

Podcasting is also new to me! I used Podomatic and used recordex to create
my podcast. Podcasts are can be inspirational for teachers and students. I also
subscribed to TedTalks. I like your ideas of how it could be used in the classroom
with your students. Good Job!
