1) Open VMware Converter & click on “Convert Machine”
2) Select “Powered‐on machine” option in select source type tab.

3) Select “A remote machine” option and provided IP & Admin credentials of source
Physical Server.
4) A Pop‐up window will appear with Agent installation option.
Select “Automatically uninstall the files when import succeeds”

5) An Agent deployment will start.
6) In “Select destination type” option select “VMware Workstation or other VMware
virtual machine” option.

7) In “Select VMware product” select “VMware Workstation 7.0.x”.
8) Create one share folder on server (where you have installed VMware Converter) &
provide UNC path of that share folder & User Name & password which has Read/Write
access to shared folder & click next.

9) Setup will start verifying destination parameters.
10) Setup will show editable settings of source machine.

11) Click on Edit option besides “Data to Copy” heading.
12) Under “Destination Size” column select “<Type size in GB>” option.

13) Type the Proper Destination Virtual HDD size under “Destination Size” column and click
next.

14) Setup will show the summary of destination virtual machine parameters.
Click Finish.
15) Setup will start Submitting Job.

16) Process of converting Physical Server to Virtual Server (P2V) will begin and show you
the status bar.
17) Once the conversion process finish. In the destination folder you will see two files with
extension .vmdk & .vmx.
.vmdk is a Virtual hard disk file & .vmx files contains all the virtual machine
configuration details.

Converting VMware Virtual Disk to Hyper-V Virtual Disk using StarWind V2V Image
Converter 5.6
By default VMware converter converts Physical server to virtual server which can
run only in VMware environment. To run this virtual machine in Hyper-V
environment we need to convert the Virtual Disk from .vmdk to .vhd using
“StarWind V2V Image Converter”. Please follow below mentioned steps for V2V
conversion.
1) Open “StarWind V2V Image Converter” from desktop icon or start menu and click Next.

4) You will see the Virtual Disk details under File info: option.
Click Next.
5) Select “MS Virtual PC growable image” option under Image format and click Next.

6) Click Next.
If you want, you can browse and specify the different location to store output (.vhd) file.

10) Now create one Virtual machine without Disk in Hyper-V and attached this converted .vhd
Disk to Virtual Machine.
11) Finish.
