LIMITATION OF SYNTHETIC DRUGS

CHAPTER III

Research Methodology

This study will be using various procedures, methods, and

instruments most especially in the data gathering, which falls under the

following sections:

Research Design

This paper will be using both quantitative and qualitative type of

research in order to have a clearer and better understanding of the study

on the limitation of synthetic drugs. It is a quantitative type of research in a

way that it quantifies the average rate of who mostly are using synthetic

drugs and to show the limitations on how to use it. At the same time, it is a

qualitative type of research because it describes the function of synthetic

drugs and the purposes of why the respondents are using it.

Research Environment

This study will conduct in two different places namely, AMA

Computer College and Echague District Hospital. These particular places

are chosen because the said school is where the researchers arecurrently

studying; also these are the most suitable places to conduct the study.
AMA Computer College is one of the IT schools in Santiago City

when it comes to learning about computers and latest technology. It is

located at Malvar, Santiago City and is K-12 ready. It has an International

Partnership with Oracle, IBM, and Microsoft. IT-enhanced curriculum for all

degree programs with emphasis on skills, creativity and hands-on training.

The available courses for College are Bachelor of Science in Information

Technology, Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Bachelor of Science

in Computer Engineering, Bachelor of Science in Electronics and

Communication Engineering. For Senior High school, the Academic

Strands that are available are: Science, Technology, Engineering and

Mathematics (STEM), Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM),

Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS), General Academic Strand

(GAS).

The Echague District Hospital, formerly Primo Gaffud District

Hospital was originally located at San Fabian, Echague, Isabela and started

operating in 1974 as a ten-bed capacity primary hospital. In May 2005, it

was relocated at Ipil, Echague, Isabela in one of the four district hospitals

constructed during the incumbency of Governor Faustino S. Dy Jr. The new

hospital was inaugurated on June 29, 2004, but the actual transfer of

personnel and equipment at Ipil took place on May 16, 2005. It later on

approved to be the Echague District Hospital. It is a core referral hospital of

the southern Inter-Local Health Zone which includes the municipalities of

Echague, Jones, San Agustin, San Isidro, Ramon, Cordon, Dinapigue and

Santiago City with a combined population of about 424,000. The population

served is not only confined to its catchment areas but also to patients

coming from adjacent municipalities of Alicia, Angadanan, San Guillermo,

and San Mateo and as far as the provinces of Quirino and Ifugao.

The Echague District Hospital is a 25-bed general hospital which is

continuously experiencing a tremendous influx of patients with a bed

occupancy rate of 179.09% in 2017. This hospital has been tested through

the years, for it has been a place to conduct medical missions. They are

already well informed enough about different medical studies.

The said school and hospital will be the research environment of the

study where the data will be gathered and analyzed.

Subject of the Study

Student – Employees - Professionals

The participants in this study will be some Senior High School

students, chosen College students and professionals that are studying and

working in AMA Computer College. Also, a numbered nurses, employees

and doctors who are working in the hospital will also be gathered as

participants in this study.

They will be the participants for this study and this is to determine the

average rate of who mostly are using synthetic drugs, to show the limitations

on how to use it and to know what really synthetic drugs are for. The table

below shows the distribution of the respondents of the study.

Research Instruments

Survey Questionnaires
This is to assess enough thoughts, opinions, informations and

feelings. Determining the average rate of who mostly are using synthetic

drugs by gathering written responses which will later on be analysed and

recorded.

Data Gathering Procedure

The following diagram shows the flow of the data gathering:

Ask permission to the students,

employees and Professional if they are
available to answer some questions about
Synthetic Drugs.

Let the respondents take their time to

read and answer the question provided.

Retrieval, Tabulation, Treatment,

Interpretation of Data

Figure 2. Data-Gathering Process

The first step to gather the data in this study is to ask permission from

the students, employees and professionals if they are available to answer

some questions about Synthetic Drugs. Subsequently, the respondents

were observed while they are answering the question and looking at them

if they had a hard time in answering the survey as a part of the process.

After the survey are done. The raw data gathered will be tabulated,

analysed and interpreted, to know the result of the survey and to find

additional information from the respondents.

Data analysis tools

The procedure that use in transforming data with the goal of extracting

valuable information and examine the conclusion are;

 Likert Scale

In rating study based on the result of the survey conducted the researcher

used Likert Scale. It will measured the response of the respondents in the

implementation of the design.

 Table

Well-prepared tables help to present a elaborate data in compact and

usually appealing manner, as well as enable journal viewers, editors, and

readers to get a quick view.

 Pie Chart

To see the difference of the respondent`s choice, the researcher used pie

chart. It helps to communicate survey results and convey findings as clearly

as possible.

 Research Method

For further information, please see Surveys

GDS runs large-scale anonymous online surveys through a secure
encrypted website (https://www.globaldrugsurvey.com). The research tool
and methods employed in current studies are based on previous work by
the group conducted over the last decade, beginning with the first paper
published in 2001 that has been cited over 250 times (Winstock et al
2001). Our team has successfully used this methodology to identify new
drug trends before they reach the wider community and explore the
relationship between patterns of substance use and experienced harms
(Winstock et al 2010, Winstock et al 2011, Winstock et al 2012, Winstock
et al 2013, Winstock et al 2014, Winstock et al 2015, Barratt et al 2014,
Bellis et al 2015).
A link to the survey, hosted at https://www.globaldrugsurvey.com, is
shared with our global media partners who promote the survey online,
through social media and in print for a period of approximately 6 weeks
from the time of launch in mid-November each year. Since 2011 the scope
of our work has expanded beyond our original sampling focus on clubbers
and ‘party drug use’. Our surveys now encompass the monitoring of
alcohol, e-cigarettes, emerging drugs of abuse, as well as prescription
medications. A core battery of questions facilitating time trend analyses
(see below) addressing patterns of use, prevalence, cost and drug related
harms are accompanied by a range of specialist topics, which are selected
each year by the GDS Academic Network and GDS Core Research
Group. Since 2012 we have published between 5-10 peer reviewed
academic articles per year in diverse but high quality journals.

What GDS can do for you

 GDS is an efficient approach to gain content content-rich data that
explores diverse health outcomes associated with the use of drugs and
alcohol across the population of your country.
 GDS helps you better understand the quantitative dynamics of personal
decision-making about drug use, detects regional differences in patterns
of drug use and related harm, and informs novel interventions.
 GDS provides essential, current data on the patterns of use, harms,
health and well-being experienced by the full spectrum of users in your
country.
