- land preparation is is one of the basic, but most


important cultural practices in lowland and
upland vegetable production. Most of our direct
seeded and transplanted vegetables crops give
the best yields when the land for planting is well
prepared.

- Alright! Before we start our discussion, let us
sing first “ Bahay kubo” but class, listen first to
my instructions:
 I will group you into two . this will be the
group one ( pointing to the left), and this
will be the group two ( pointing to the
right).
 Each group will select one representative to
jot down the vegetables or crop mentioned - Everyone is listening
in the bahay kubo song to the board.
 Then we will check if they had noted the
crops in the song.

- So let us see which group had listed the crops

- Alright! Let us discuss what is vegetable? - Students raising their hand

- Vegetable is usually herbaceous plant grown for
an edible part that is usually eaten. Vegetables - Everyone is listening
can be eaten either raw or cooked and play an
important role in human nutrition, being mostly
low in fat and carbohydrates, but high in
vitamins, minerals and fiber.

it is based on relationships among
different plants. According to INGO
2005 the classification of vegetables
are:
 Family Alliaceae
 Family Brassicaceae
 Family Cucurbitaceae
 Leguminoceae
 Family Solanaceae

Family Alliaceae

Family Alliaceae are noxious bulbous - Students are listening


perennials with grass – like leaves.

onion and garlic.

- Onion (Allium cepa L.) is arguably the most


important cooking ingredient in the world. It is
grown throughout the world for its pungent
bulbs and flavorful leaves. Its because of its
sharp taste and pungent aroma, onions are much
sought after a seasoning meat , fish and
vegetable dishes . on the other hand, onions
have also medicinal properties and used as cure
for cough, insomnia, hemorrhoid, and - Students are listening
constipation.

- Garlic (A llium sativum L.) is referred to as the


king of all spices. It is pungent bulb that is one
of the most important cooking ingredients.

In the Philippines, garlic is considered as a key


commercial crop with great potential for export
. garlic is used extensively as food, condiments,
and for medicinal purposes. It is good source of
calcium, phosphorus, and potassium. Its leaves
are rich sources of vitamin A and c. it aso
contain allicin, an antibacterial compound that
slow down the growth of certain bacteria. It is
often used in folk medicine to treat wound, sore
throat, and fungal skin diseases like athletes foot
and ringworm.

Family Brassicaceae

Brassicaceae or mustard family is a large
Natural or major economic importance
containing a diverse variety crop plants grown
for salads, vegetables , condiments, and
ornamental.

1. Cool season crops


a. Leaf- lettuce, cabbage, spinach, pechay,
celery, onion, kale.
b. Stem - sweet potato, kangkong, asparagus
c. Root- raddish, Beet, Carrot, turnip, parsnip.
2. Warm season crop
a. Fruit- tomatoes, watermelon, cantloupe,
squash, bittergourd, chayote, okra pepper.
b. Root- taro, sweet potato, yam bean, tugi,
and ubi
c. Fruits and Seeds- bush bean, cow pea,
mongo, lima bean, and string bean.

garden . your material must be painted with
white and the letters in black. Bring it tomorrow
