University of Michigan September 2006- 2011

I entered the University as a nursing student and in the fall of 2009 I transferred to the School of Education as a secondary
education student. The following is a break down of the three practicum courses I took while in the teacher education program.

 Education 307- Practicum 1 and 2: Through these practicum classes I have gained experience working with both middle
and high school students. For my first practicum I was placed at Huron High School where I was mainly observing,
correcting assignments, and helping students. For the second practicum I was at Scarlett middle school where I took on a
few more responsibilities such as disciplinary issues, administering tests and teaching a lesson on ER and IR verbs.
 Student Teaching: For this experience I was placed at Dexter High School where I performed the following functions:
o Independently and cooperatively developed and taught lesson plans for Spanish 1B, Spanish 2A and 2B using a
variety of teaching methods and resources such as TPRS: Total Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling as
well as utilizing SMART board technology.
o Independently designed a two-week unit plan focusing on the needs of three focal students.
o Created rubrics, projects, quizzes, tests and syllabi.
o Participated in professional development meetings and departmental meetings.

Cumulative GPA post- Nursing: 3.0

University of Salamanca Summer 2010

In July-August, 2010, I studied abroad in Salamanca, Spain for six weeks. I was immersed in the culture and language of the
country through my experiences living with a host family, taking courses in subjects including advanced linguistics and history, as
well as touring the varied regions of the country.

Work Experience

Teacher, East Kentwood High School August 2015- Present

n This fall I will be entering in my 5th year at East Kentwood. I have taught Spanish 1 and 2 to students 9th-12th grade. My daily
agenda includes teaching grammar and vocabulary through stories created by students and myself, using authentic materials to
demonstrate real-world Spanish, and assessing for student comprehension. I strive to create positive relationships with my
students by engaging in conversations about their personal interests, school, sports, etc. Lastly, a large part of my day is
interacting and collaborating with my colleagues.

Teacher, Port Huron Northern High August 2011- 2015

n For four years I taught both Spanish and Psychology to students ranging from 9 to 12 grade. I taught both Spanish 1 and
th th

Spanish 4 and thoroughly enjoyed both levels. I enjoyed creating my own lesson plans rather than working straight out of a
book. Outside of teaching I coached sideline cheer, competitive cheer and softball. I have also been the advisor for film club,

anima, and diversity club. I was also on the school’s leadership team where I met with several other teachers along with
administrators and discussed a variety of topics ranging from school testing and PBIS, to professional development.

Server, Grizzly Peak Brewing Company April 2008- 2011

n For three years I worked with this company as a means to support my education.

Math Literacy Worker & Peer Facilitator, Young People’s Project, Ann Arbor April 2009- Dec. 2009
n The Young People’s Project is a non-profit organization composed of college students that works with underprivileged students
in the Ypsilanti and Detroit area promoting math literacy and social justice. I began working with the organization in the
summer of 2009 as a paid volunteer at Wayne Memorial High School, working with high-school students in a daytime summer
program. Through the program, I was given the opportunity to lead a discussion section for an upper-level Sociology class at
the University of Michigan in the fall of 2009. My teaching experience consisted of facilitating a twice-weekly small-group
discussion in conjunction with a weekly professor-led lecture.

Volunteer, University of Michigan Health System Child Care Center Spring 2007 and Spring 2008
n I volunteered here as a student for my project outreach class and then came back the following year. While volunteering I
worked with a group 5 year olds and was involved in a number of different learning activities. This was my first time working
as a teacher and it was one of a couple experiences that motivated me to pursue a career in education.
