The Stag and its Antlers
A thirsty stag stopped to drink at a pool in the forest one day. He stood admiring his
reflection in the water.
“My! How handsome my antlers are!” he thought of himself. “Yes! They are very
handsome! On the other hand, just look at my skinny legs!” he sighed. “They look as if they
could hardly hold me up!”
Just then a wolf leaped from the bushes at the edge of the forest. The frightened stag ran
for his life across the open field. Fortunately, he could run much faster than the wolf, and he
escaped into the forest.
However, the stag ran into trouble. His handsome antlers become entangled in some
vines hanging from the trees. As the wolf got closer and closer, the stag tried desperately to get
free. He thought sadly, “What a fool I am! With my ugly legs, I could outrun the wolf. But now I
am trapped with my handsome antlers!”
