HOW I FACILTATE MY LEARNING SESSION

When I facilitate my learning session, first I prepare the learning facilities, tools, materials and
equipment based on the existing Training Regulation (TR). I prepare the workshop based on the Nine
Components of Competency Based Training, which includes the (1)Practical Work area,(2) Contextual
Learning Area,(3) Learning Resource Area, (4)Computer Area, (5)Trainer’s Resource Area, (6)and Quality
Control Area. I set-up the Tools and Equipment according to the learning activities, using the List of tools
equipment and materials found in the TR. I also prepare the Pre-Training Assessment documents .

When I have done the above preparation, I meet the trainees, introduce myself and in the
process validate their enrolment. I administer the Pre-Training Assessment, also known simply as Pre-
Assessment. I start with the Self Assessment Check (SAC), Learning Style, and Learner’s Characteristic
Tests and Pre-Test. The result of these tests I will use to make the Training Activity Matrix (TAM) taking
into consideration their individual data I gathered. The SAC will provide me their current competencies
of the qualification, then I can Recognize their Prior Learning (RPL) if they can provide the necessary
evidences. The learning style will help me know the easiest manner the trainees can learn whether they
Auditory, Kinesthetic or Visual Learners. Last test is the Pre-Test used to determine the underpinning
knowledge of the trainees. After getting the results of the Pre- Assessment, I provide the feedback to
each trainee. This is indicated in the Training Activity Matrix (TAM).

The Orientation is next. This is where I discuss about the School, Its Policies, the Competency
Based Training Delivery, differentiating it from the traditional and the role of the Trainer as a facilitator
in a learner centered training system. I discuss the Principles of CBT which among others are ; Learning
is based on the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) derived from the Competency Standard (CS) which
were identified by the industry workers, Learning is Modular in structure, wherein One unit of
competency is equivalent to One Module of CBLM. Another is there is a Recognition of Prior Learning
(RPL) so the trainee will just provide evidence of Current competencies/cy that he has. I use appropriate
training methods based on the level of the trainees. For the Learning Outcome, there must be a Task
Sheet, the Unit of competency must have a Job sheet and if a machine or equipment is to be used, an
Operation sheet is available. The structure of providing the lesson is from simple to complex and is
geared towards the adult learner’s characteristics. By doing so, it follows the Gagne’s Nine Learning
Events. I also enumerate and discuss the learning methodologies as well as the resources needed
including the time for each task.

The TAM I earlier mentioned will guide the Trainees for their assigned tasks. I provide the
assistance to help the trainee achieve the learning outcomes. Then I monitor their performance with a
checklist and give the trainees feedback to be indicated in the Achievement Chart and Progress Chart.
The result may be Competent or Not Yet Competent. If a trainee is able to perform all the units of
competency according to Industry Standards, I will prepare for him an Institutional Assessment (IA). In
giving the IA, I will orient first of the evidence gathering methods which may include the Written Test,
Demonstration and Questioning. On the day of the IA, I provide the Materials, tools, equipment and
documents such as the Specific Instructions, Performance Checklist and Questionnaire and Post Test.
After gathering all the evidences, I give him a feedback by telling him the tasks he was able to do
satisfactorily and the areas of improvement.
I will encourage him to take the National Competency Assessment by guiding him through the
documentary process. I give the Training Session Evaluation form to the trainee to get information on
the possible areas of improvement in of the training delivery and I analyze the gathered data using
statistical tools to come up with an interpretation and make the necessary adjustments in the Session
Plan, writing it in the Teacher’s Reflection, modifying the training method, adjusting the time and
resources for the next training Program.

2. HOW I MAKE MY SESSION PLAN

Before conducting any training program, I will make as Session Plan. To do it, first I
identify the Sector, Qualification and Level that I will offer to my target clients, they may have
various training needs and Learning characteristics. I will use the Pre-training Assessment Tests
such as , Identifying Learner’s Charateristics to know the easier way by which each of them will
learn. I will review the Training Regulation (TR) to know its Unit of competencies such as the
Basic, Common and Core competencies also make a Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) and
The elements in the TR with its corresponding assessment criteria can be the source of topics to
be included in the information sheets of the Competency Based Learning Material (CBLM). The
assessment method can be identified from the It may include but not limited to written test,
Demonstration, interview and portfolio. Competency Standard. After gathering all the necessary
information that must be included in the Session Plan I will fill in its different parts according to
the required format. The parts are the Sector ex. Construction, Qualification ex. Carpentry and
the Units of competency to be performed. I will also write the learning outcomes which is also
the element in the TR. The learning activities such as Learning Content, Methods, Practice,
Feedback, resources and Time will be filled in. I will select the appropriate training method
based on its content, objective, cost, target client, resources and time. My training activities will
be from simple to complex and according to Gagne’s sequence of events and hierarchy of
learning theory. I will use the approved assessment methods such as Demonstration with
Questioning and Porfolio. But to validate the assessment instrument, I will refer to the relevant
CS, apply the Dimensions of Competency, maximize the use of limited resources. I will be
prepared to administer the training program to adults which learns by being practical, because
they learn easier by doing and they use their past experiences to learn what is new to them.
Finally I will facilitate their learning session using the CBT.
3. TO MAINTAIN TRAINING FACILITIES
For every training program there is a need for the facilities and equipment to be used by the
trainer and trainee. In order to do so, as a Trainer I will start by identifying all the equipment
and facilities that are required in the Training Regulation (TR) of EIM NC II. It can be found in
the section 3 under the Training Standards. I will follow school policy and make a purchase
request for the equipment, tools and materials listed in the TR. Then it will be approved by the
administrator. After approval it goes to a request for quotation and a purchase order is filled up
and undergoes the process of procurement.
Upon the arrival of the items requested, I will make an inventory to prepare it for the training.
In the case of the equipment, I will read and keep the manuals. These manuals I will use to
make an equipment maintenance plan which may be used to make the usefulness of the
equipment longer. If ever an equipment will malfunction and I cannot fix it, I will put a tag-out
notice so that it will not be accidentally operated. I will make a breakdown report and submit it
to the supervisor so that an authorized person can diagnose and repair it. The materials I will
use can have wastes which I will segregate using a wastes segregation plan. They can be
recyclable, non-recyclable, reusable. The disposal method will follow the policy of the school.
After the training session, I will implement the housekeeping by doing the 5S. I will use a
Facilities Equipment and Maintenance checklist to be sure that it is implemented.
4. HOW I CONDUCT COMPETENCY ASSESSMENT
As an appointed assessor for EIM NC II, the first thing I will do is to make sure that the
assessment will not be delayed. Before the day of the assessment I will do an inspection to
determine the readiness of the assessment area by using a checklist of tools equipment and
materials provided in the Competency Assessment Tools (CATs). I will also consider the
ventilation, lighting and provision for emergency. Then I will declare if the assessment is ready.
On the day of the assessment, I will receive from the TESDA Rep the assessment package in it
are Assessor’s Guide, the Specific instruction to the candidate, ratings sheet, attendance sheet,
self-assessment guide, application forms and CARS. I will take note of their quantities.
I will introduce myself to the candidates and ask for their admission slips. I will check with their
IDs then will let them sign the attendance sheet after reading and application form as well as
their SAG that is filled up. The SAG will mean that they are ready for the assessment.
To start a rapport, I will make them relax and ask what their language they prefer also tell them
of the presence of the TESDA Representative, AC manager and Processing officer and they will
not be assessing the candidates.
I will ask the candidates of the purpose of their taking the assessment. Then I will introduce the
context of the assessment stating the tasks to be done, materials to be used and time allotted.
I will mention the three groups of competencies as prescribed by industry which are the Basic,
Common and Core competencies. If any of them has a certification that I might consider as I
Recognize their Prior Learning (RPL) or certificates of employment.
I will continue my orientation using the preferred language, explaining to them the Dos and
don’ts to follow while taking the assessment. For those with some difficulties, I will use
reasonable adjustment. Then I will discuss the methods by which I will gather evidences such as
written test, demonstration and questioning. The next will be about the legal and ethical
responsibilities and confidentiality of the assessment wherein only the Assessor, candidate and
TESDA rep is allowed to know the assessment result, the candidate can write a letter of appeal
to the provincial office where the assessor and assessment center is accredited. I will tell them
them that the result can be competent and not yet competent. Those who will be competent
will receive their NCs by presenting their CARS to the provincial office after 5 working days and
for those who will fail can take the reassessment after they do more practice and re-apply.
I will confirm that they understand my orientation. The next I will do is assign numbers to each
candidate. I will let them go thru written test, demonstration with PPE and questioning using
the Rating sheets and marking properly. I will make decision based on the corroboration and
rules of evidences
I will give a feedback, by Kiss before kick by citing the result of their performance, starting with
the good they have done and tasks they have not performed well to be competent.
For the not yet competent I will try to be of help in my capacity. After letting them sign rating
sheets and CARS, I will turn the filled CATs to the TESDA Representative and itemize them as I
received earlier. I will allow the TESDA Rep to let the candidates fill up the performance
evaluation form.
I will clean and clear the tools, equipment and materials to the concerned and we will leave the
area.

SUPERVISE WORKBASED LEARNING

In the CBT delivery, the trainee will be able to improve his competencies especially if done in a
real workplace, thus I as a trainer must coordinate with an Industry Partner to come up with an
additional training for my trainees.

The first thing I do is identify an established industry that can accommodate my trainees. The
industry partner I chose must have the capabilities such as the tools, equipment and facilities that they
have and use are according to the list found in the TR of my qualification. I will make a Memorandum Of
Agreement (MOA) that will be supported by a training plan. This plan will involve the personnel from the
industry partner who will be conducting training while the students are In Plant. The training plan is
important as it will be used as a guide for further skills that will be acquired by the trainee.

The trainees who will be fielded to the industry will undergo OJT orientation to prepare them in
their activities while outside of the institution. I will monitor them using Trainee’s Record Book, checking
about their performances and also ask feedback by talking to them and their supervisor. I will cite the
issues on their safety and on regular visits, ask them about risks and hazards that may be present in
their workplace.

I will also use the progress sheet to mark on their accomplishment in coordination with their
industry trainer. If ever there is a situation about a difficult trainee , I will meet with the concerned
persons and try to settle the conflict. I will counsel the problematic OJT until he will be resolved.

At the end of the OJT program I will evaluate its effectiveness compared with the objectives. I
will recommend necessary changes in how it is implemented to improve the next time it will be
arranged again for future OJTs.
Training Delivery

Modular/self-paced learning is a competency-based training modality

where the trainee is allowed to progress at his own pace. The trainer
just facilitates the training delivery.

Training delivery methods

Training Methods:
- Lecture - Modular self-paced
- Role Playing - Debate
- Group Discussion - Demonstration
- Forum - SLE
- Buzz Group - Practice
- Brainstorming - Public Speaking
- Case Study - Study Circle
- Field Trip

Modular self-paced method requires a trainee to read and follow

instructions on a Competency Based Learning Material and learns on his
own pace. The CBLM should be carefully crafted materials that can help the
trainee learn both knowledge and skill.
