Update on international policies implemented – leaders and emerging countries
Plenary Room | Simultaneous translation FR EN JP MAN

This introductory talk aims to provide an overview of the existing policies in many countries to facilitate
the construction of mid- and high-rise buildings.

For more than a decade, we have seen a significant global increase in the number of new construction
projects for buildings over four stories high. This new reality is being made possible thanks to the measures
taken by governments and their rapid adoption by developers and construction professionals. Some
countries have long stood out, while others are slowly emerging with programs to support the development
of this market.

Keynote Speaker: Jennifer Cover (US WoodWorks, USA)

 LENARY SESSION 1 (PART 1)
Emerging mid-rise and high-rise timber construction projects worldwide
Plenary Room | Simultaneous translation FR EN JP MAN

In recent years, there has been an ever-increasing number of large-scale projects worldwide where wood
has demonstrated its ability to meet the requirements of high-rise construction. Developers and profes-
sionals from many countries have taken up the challenge of using wood to construct buildings that reach
unprecedented heights.

In this plenary session, key speakers from several countries will share their experience on projects recently
completed or still under development.

Contribution of timber construction to the bioeconomy and carbon market
Plenary Room | Simultaneous translation FR EN JP MAN

The construction sector plays a major role in the economy of each industrialized country. This industry is
increasingly interested in participating in sustainable development, which includes ensuring that materials
come from sustainable practices and have a low environmental footprint. Wood, with its ability to store
carbon, has every advantage to be used in the construction and development of buildings. This plenary
session is intended to explain the benefits and challenges of opting for wood within a forest bio-economy
and sustainable development perspective for future generations.

Science and technology for urban densification: wood as a tool
Plenary Room | Simultaneous translation FR EN JP MAN

The development of new construction techniques or technological tools to speed up the construction of
buildings has been growing at a fast pace in recent years. Whether it is the larger-scale use of BIM (Building
Information Modeling) or the integration of innovative building systems that enable rapid installation of
structural components, these new construction techniques and technologies are often cited as examples
when building in highly dense urban environments.

Better planning combined with rapid construction of buildings help minimize impacts on residents. In this
plenary session, examples of new technologies and construction techniques currently being used around
the world will be presented

UALITY OF LIFE AND CONFORT CONFERENCE
The impact of wooden cities on quality of life and comfort
Plenary Room | Simultaneous translation FR EN JP MAN

The comfort and well-being of the occupants of a building are evaluated on the basis of a number of criteria.
Whether it is a matter of obtaining a certain level of acoustic or thermal comfort or a healthy and well-lit
environment, appropriate constructive solutions need to be implemented. It has been found that a well-
designed building increases productivity and that occupants have a better quality of life. Some studies
have also shown that the use of wood increases occupants’ comfort and well-being.
