Disadvantages

Nowadays, tourism is becoming one of the most attractive sectors in many

countries in the world. Many people travel a lot yearly, a large number of companies

invest much money in this field because of its benefits. To the eye, it may seem that

tourism brings only benefits, but further consideration shows that it also brings many

disadvantages.

The quick developing speed of this field can cause the hastening of environmental

destruction. The more tourists come to the area, the more pollution they bring in.

Concurrently, some large multinational corporations run after their profit despite of

ruining the environment. For example, they cut down the forest, destroy the natural

landscape in order to build hotels, restaurants for their business. As a result, the natural

environment is threatened. Not only that, while the local people have to suffer from the

side effects, they do not gain much. This is caused due to development focusing mainly

into tourists destinations while the well-being of local residents are often ignored.

In addition, exploitation of the tourist industry can also lead to cultural

degradation. Sometimes foreigners act with no respect to national traditions, for example,

the behavior of European women in Eastern countries. They bring the bad influence to

the community which is not in conformity with the local custom. Some of these include

prostitution, substance abuse and much more. Last but not least, more people means more

usage of vehicles, which eventually result in traffic congestion and higher accidents rates.

Everything always has two sides: good and bad point and so does tourism. But to

my way of thinking, I strongly believe that tourism brings more harm than good.

Thank you.
Advantages

Tourism is the act of travel for the purpose of not only recreation, but also the

provision of services for this act. It might occupy local services such as entertainment,

accommodation and catering for tourists. It can proven that tourism offers many

advantages.

The most obvious of the advantages is that tourism generates huge amounts of

money which contributes considerably to the economic growth of an area. Many

countries depend heavily upon travel expenditures by foreigners as a source of taxation

and as a source of income for the enterprises. Therefore, the development of tourism is

often a strategy to promote a particular region for the purpose of increasing commerce

through exporting goods and services. By attracting people from almost everywhere, the

area can get much money in order to develop the other essential public services such as

hospitals and schools. Tourists who come here would surely, exchange their money for

local currency for usage. Thus, it raises the value of that particular currency on a global

basis. Another advantage is giving the citizen of the area the chance to escape poverty

and attain a higher living standard. Developing tourism services means that more

infrastructures such as roads, hotels and leisure facilities are built; therefore, more jobs in

all levels are created. For example, it provides direct employment for the people

associated with occupations in bars and hotels. Thanks to it, the average living standard

of people increases well and at the same time unemployment rate is on the decrease.

So, in my point of view, I can darely conclude that tourism brings more good than

it does harm.

Thank you.
