INTRODUCTION
Values related to the values ofthe society in certain era including in the film. Film is to
interpret and be a part of real live experience, it must express this deeper reality. It
mustfind meaning and design in the fragment of life, thebits, and pieces of history that
swirl around us. Filmalso responds and concerns to social problemsbecause film has
significant influences to the society. Film is a story that has a similarity with drama. It is a
play work or a story telling in which the charactersare represented by actor. Those films
contain themes, values, norms or ideology exists in a society.

Moral understanding in general is good and bad doctrine that is generally accepted
regarding actions, attitudes, obligations, and so on. The film, which is a reflection of the
social life of the community, also contains moral application in the attitudes and behavior
of the characters in accordance with their views on morality. Through the stories shown in
the film and the attitudes and behavior of the characters in the film, it is expected that the
film audience will be able to take the moral messages conveyed in the film (Nurgiyantoro,
2013: 430).

As a future teacher, the writer should give muchknowledge to build students attitude and
build theircharacterization. For example, by explaining themoral value of film, she can tell
her future studentsthat life is never going to be easy; they need thestrong will and guts to
achieve their dreams, encounter the problems and try to solve it withmature think.
Film is not only as entertainment, but also as mediainformation and education, the delivery
of information through films can be donequickly. There are many genre categories in the
film that lift the storyfiction and real stories that are reflections of everyday life. Filmlift
the social reality around us with a touch of storylineinterestingly, the educational function
includes social criticism of the circumstances aroundfor example corruption committed by
officials and the country's economic crisishappen. Inside a film also contains a moral
content that becomes alearning for the audience.
In this study the writer chooses the film entitled “The Story of Moana : A Tale of Courage
and Adventure” film directed by Ron Clements and John Musker. This is a movie story
about a girl named Moana who wants to adventure across the Pacific Ocean. Moana is also
depicted in the film has a character that is brave and never give up.This is the point ofthis
film. It is very excellent educational film for allstudents.
Moana is a 2016 American 3D computer animated fantasy adventure film produced by
Walt Disney Animation Studios and the 56th film in the Disney animated feature canon.
Moana is described as a 16-year-old teenager who has an attachment to the ocean. Born
and raised as a candidate for successor to the tribal chief on Motonui Island, Moana's
destiny was actually written as leader. Moana, a teenage girl full of enthusiasm and born as
an adventurer. It is said to sail from the ancient South Pacific islands of Oceania looking
for a fairytale island. But on the way, he tried to find the true identity of his people. With
the help of her grandmother, Moana tried to find the 'roots'.
During this extraordinary journey, he had to join the designated hero, a legendary half-god
named Maui. Then they crossed the high seas to take action-packed trips, facing huge
ferocious sea creatures, heart conflicts and ancient folklore.
From the explanation of the writer above, the writer formulates the problem in this study,
namely how is the moral message described in the Moana movie ? Researchers used
qualitative descriptive research methods with data analysis techniques namely qualitative
analysis, to analyze data. Qualitative Content Analysis can identify visible and invisible
messages from the document being studied. The benefits of this research can be submitted
as research material in the future that wants to know more about moral messages in the
film. In addition, this research can also be used as information and education material for
audiences.

METHOD
The research method used in this study wasdescriptive qualitative.Gay, Mills, & Airasia
(2006) states that descriptive method is a method of research thatinvolves collecting data in
order to answerquestion concerning the current status of thesubject of the research in
presenting the data, thewriter employs a descriptive method.“Population is a group of
elements or cases, whether individuals, objects, or events, that conformsto specific of the
research” (McMillan & Schumacher, 1992: 69).
Volume X, No. X, XXXXX 2017 pp XX-XX 3

Population in this research is all the dialogues amongthe characters.“Sample is the group of
element, or a singleelement, from the data obtained”(McMillan & Schumacher, 1992: 69).
The sample is entire populations.“Instrument is a tools or implement, especiallysomething
used in performing an action, e.g. inscientific work” (McMillan & Schumacher, 1992:
189). Instrument ofthis research is the film script of “The Story of Moana : A Tale of
Courage and Adventure”.
Data analysis is the way to classify and toarrange the data based on the purpose of the
research. In conducting the analysis research, the writer usedthe following procedure:
observing the film, writingthe transcription of the film, deciding textualevidence to give
the clue about intrinsic value, conducting library research to get relevant theories, finding
intrinsic elements, and concluding moralvalue.
Researchers used qualitative content analysis to analyze the data, starting from the analysis
of various data successfully collected by researchers. The data obtained by researchers in
this case are scripts in the film that researchers have categorized that show the moral
message in the film. Praise Lekosno (2015) states, qualitative research is used to find or
develop existing theories, the data used in qualitative research is usually in the form of
direct or indirect observation or analysis, in-depth interviews by collecting data, and
documentation.
Qualitative research is shown to understand social phenomena from the perspective of
participants. The qualitative content analysis method, based on Schreier (2012) approach,
is used to compile literature review and analysis, qualitative content analysis is a
descriptive research method involving the development of qualitative coding and coding
frameworks (Snelson, 2016).
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
Results
In the data description, the writer describe the data using descriptive qualitative method.
Then will be described below:

A tale of courage and adventure, tells of the adventures of a teenage girl who is
Theme the main character is "Moana Waialiki" who wants to sail in the sea like his
predecessor, 3000 years ago.
Starting from the story of his grandmother, Gramma Tala (Rachel House), little
Moana was very enthusiastic about the legends and myths that spread across the
South Pacific island of Oceania from ancient times. Gramma Tala has a strong
instinct that Moana is destined to wade the vast ocean and explore from island
to island like her ancestors. When approaching adulthood, the desire that Moana
(Auli'i Cravalho) had to explore was increasingly high to leave the tribe and her

village and find out who she really was.

But it was hindered by his father, Tui (Temuera Morrison), and also as the chief
of the village where he lived. But that did not dampen his determination to
explore the ocean and the mission that Moana carried out, saving his village
from a curse.

And to take on this mission, Moana had to meet with the legend from the South
Pacific islands who called himself a demigod, Maui (Dwayne Johnson). If this
works, Moana and Maui can save their village from a terrible curse.

CONCLUSION
This study are presented asanswers to research questions. After analyzing. The film, the
authors conclude that its intrinsic valueof the movie are themes, place settings, characters
andcharacterization, and plot.
Watching educational movies is a positive wayincrease the knowledge used for teaching
materials.Students may be asked to define characters and characters characterization, to
know the plot. Other than that, it iscan help them to improve their learning motivationmore
and think differently than usual.Even so, we need to pay attention in choosingfilm as a
medium of our teaching material, because thereis some kind of film that does not suit
herchildren.
From the individualsm the film we analyze,we learn about courage and never give up or
good attitude that caninspires us to become better teachers in the future and to try. The
mind is open to any means, and it also canadvise students. if they have a dream then pursue
that dream and prove to everyone that you can reach a dream
