Abuse of Power’s Legacy

Abuse of power occur in our daily lives. It must have been experienced by all kinds of
people in different forms and degree. It may be a politician, a policeman, a lawyer or even to the
most loving brother, they are not excused with the temptation of ‘having it all’. I am a part of the
generation Z, from the millennial up to now, we’ve grown watching it as a form of injustice. Yet,
people are silenced to contradict this issue because for now, “if one fails, one also falls”. Are we
willing to surrender ourselves as the legacy of abuse of power? I am not.

Let us start by looking into the evidences of abuse. First, Kim Jong II’s concubines. Kim
Jong II, then leader of North Korea, used his power to force women into being his personal
concubines. It was not opposed by other citizens as the authority of this emperor extends to their
own lives. By this event, women were more fearful of speaking for their own rights and freedom.
Women weren’t just the victims of this but also the men of the country. It was instilled to them
that the power of someone controls them. The emperor’s image was still fresh to other people, he
was named as the “dear leader of North Korea” despite what he had done to his people, especially
the women of his own nation.

Back in 2011, China’s Food Safety Czar accepted almost a million dollar under the table
to permit unsafe medicines to not undergo food and drug testing. This caused deaths and
disabilities to the people of China. It is vivid that one man can change the fate of a million. If it
wasn’t for the money and loyalty of companies, the czar could have saved individuals. This issue
made China even more considered as the nation that produces the fake materials. Abuse affects us
in different ways, if Kim Jong II escaped the phase wherein he was disregarded by people, it
became the opposite for the whole China.

The abuse of power does stand as an effect of selfishness and lack of contentment. Yes, by
this arrangement of abuse people receive the award they are going for, compared when they
wouldn’t. No hard work has to be done for it to be achieved. Nothing is worried about because as
people in authority, they had their minds set that they will always get away with it. But to look at
the fair side, these people, hostile and vagrant, is to be corrected not judged.

If we continue allowing the abuse of power, it marks in our minds that we become the
product of it. We cannot remain mute as someone is being violated, bribed and hurt. We have to
take our stand because at the end it is not about the people violating the rules. It is about the
violation itself. Elaborating the events above, it is obvious that each one of us is affected by it. We
play this game and we win by being unified again to make ourselves the legacy of the good.
