CEIT 319 SPRING 2016 LAB 1 - CREATING WEB SITE

In this activity, you will prepare a website using weebly.com.

SCENARIO: CEIT 319 course instructor asked you to prepare an e-portfolio about yourself
that includes at least four parts:

1. Biography: a paragraph about you (all about me). You can also use tables to list the schools
you attended, awards you received, etc.
2. My Professional Journey/Coursework: the list of your courses and the assignments you
have prepared for these courses
3. Community service: your voluntary work (if any) or My interests- your academic interests
or hobbies such as photography, origami.
4. My Thoughts/Reflections/Note to self: a blog page where you share your thoughts and
reflections :)
Therefore, you are required to create a web site using weebly.com.

1. Sign up http://www.weebly.com with your METU mail.

2. Since we do not have any commercial purpose for this activity, choose “I just need a
website” in the dialog box.
3. Choose your theme and click on it to see your site’s view in “Preview” mode. If you
are satisfied with your choice, you can click “Start Editing” to work on your site.
Otherwise, just click close to return theme selection step.

4. In this step, choose your domain. If you do not have any domain taken before, just
type your “student ID” and click on search button. Then, choose the Weebly domain
option as subdomain name. And pass the remaining dialog box options as below.
5. Click “Pages” button at the top, and then see the standard pages at the left panel. Now
it is time to change the default page names in conjunction with your activity purpose.
(your web site must include 4 pages which are Biography, My Professional
Journey/Coursework, Community service, My Thoughts/Reflections/Note to self ).
To do that first of all click on the default page name, then type the new title of your
page into the page name text field. You can see the pages that you create by clicking
on “PAGES” on the blue bar and add extra pages by clicking plus sign at the top of
the page panel if you need.

6. Click "Build" button at the top, drag and drop text element, and enter the related
information (For Biography page, write a paragraph about you. You can also use
tables to list the schools you attended, awards you received, etc. For My Professional
Journey/Coursework page, list of your courses and the assignments you have
prepared for these courses. For Community service page, write your voluntary work
(if any) or My interests- your academic interests or hobbies such as photography,
origami. For My Thoughts/Reflections/Note to self page, share your thoughts and
reflections. Be careful before adding text or image, you should select the page that
you want to fill.

7. Upload image on the pages (at least 2 images in total).

8. Click "Theme" button at the top, and change background and text font.
9. At "Build" menu, add a YouTube video. Before adding youtube video into the page,
you should copy the link of a video. For getting the link, open a video on youtube
and click share button and copy the link.
10. Then add a document related with the development area.

11. Then publish your website, copy the URL, and send it to
http://tinyurl.com/ceit319lab1 to submit your assignment! To do that, first of all you
need to click on publish button on the top of your editor. Then, click on your website
domain address on share dialog box. The next step is to copy your url from the
address bar of your web browser. Then visit http://tinyurl.com/ceit319lab1 to add
your web site address and your personal info to the course form.
