Online Projects, Collaboration Sites and Publishing Opportunities

Lesson Idea Name:

Content Area: Math
Grade Level(s): 9-10
Content Standard Addressed:
MGSE9-12.A.CED.1 Create equations and inequalities in one variable and use them to solve problems. Include
equations arising from linear, quadratic, simple rational, and exponential functions (integer inputs only).
MGSE9-12.A.APR.7 Understand that rational expressions form a system analogous to the rational numbers,
closed under addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division by a nonzero rational expression; add,
subtract, multiply, and divide rational expressions.
Technology Standard Addressed:
2b Students engage in positive, safe, legal and ethical behavior when using technology, including social
interactions online or when using networked devices.
6b Students create original works or responsibly repurpose or remix digital resources into new creations.

Selected Online Project/Collaboration Site/Publishing Opportunity:

Describe how you would incorporate an Online Project/Collaboration Site/Publishing Opportunity in your
classroom:

Students may read about Golden ratio and its history using different resources such as internet and
books. Once students have researched the topic, divide students into groups to discuss their results
according to the completed table. Group work may take photos of nature, animals, and buildings from
their community and describe them by using golden ratio. Teachers may show how to draw golden ratio
as a workshop. Students share all works from different countries on IEARN website also they can share
their feedback and reflections about participating on this project.

Interactive activities:

• Organizing of Skype sessions with teachers and students if possible.

• Creating a Facebook page to include the teachers and students participating in the project. This will be
for sharing photos, results and recommendations. Students share all works from different countries on
IEARN website also they can share their feedback and reflections about participating on this project.

What technologies would be required to implement this proposed learning activity in a classroom?
Laptops, iPads, or some sort of technology that gives access to the internet, WiFi, and productivity tools
Describe how the following features are addressed in this learning experience (note: all of them may not be
addressed in the project, but most should be if you are reaching a high LoTi Level).
a. Collaboration with peers, near-peers, mentors outside their classroom and often beyond their
school: Students will share their findings with peers from all over the country.

b. Student-centered learning and knowledge creation (creating original data and or producing original
products as a result of engaging in a project): Students are creating their own results based on what
they believe contains the golden ratio.

c. Higher-order thinking: Students are asked to find the golden ratio in art, and nature, create items with
the golden ratio, and explain how they knew their item contained the golden ratio. Studnets are asked
to research the topic and share their findings.

d. Students publishing their original work to others who will use/care about their product: They are
taking pictures of nature and natural occurring phenomenon that has the golden ratio within.
Students can also create videos,

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Students are able to use multiple types of representation to explain golden ratio which allows for all students
to see and hear different ways the golden ratio is present throughout the world. Students are creating
content and researching the topic causing students to think at high bloom levels. Students are engaged
because they are given the choice of how to represent their research.
Lesson idea implementation and Internet Safety Policies:
I would inform administrators and parents about what the class will be doing and how it will support their
learning of the golden ratio. The students will send the document into the project manager to make sure they
are sending their information into a trustworthy source. This project is only for high school and middle school
students in the public school systems. I will also let students know to keep their identities secret. If time
allows I would ask for the IT technician to come in a teach a lesson on internet safety.
Reflective Practice:
Students will have a better understanding of the golden ratio and how it is used in everyday life. Students will
be able to compare their finding with people around the world allowing them to explore the different
countries through the view of golden ratios and how they are seen in different items depending on where they
are located geographically. Allowing students to use Geogebra to create the golden ratio allows for them to
create the golden ratio helps connect their research to the mathematical standard.
