This service manual provides the informations to ease the maintenance and/or repairs by qualified technical personnel authorised
by SOCOMEC UPS.

Applicability:
Any information included in this Service Manual is related only to Netys RT 9-11 kVA UPS.

Safety:
All operations must be done in the optimum and usual conditions of safety.

1. BRIEF VIEW

1.1 Function & Features


9K / 11KVA 2U series UPS is designed for mid-grade power systems which can provide clean power to data system, communication
system, computer network system, medical system, monitoring system and factory facilities.. etc.
• 9K / 11KVA 2U series use the high-frequency modulation technology, to decrease the volume, increase the reliability and extend
the life of UPS.
• ’1+1’ parallel redundancy system is available (MBB can be selected) and thereby effectively improve the reliability of the system.

ENGLISH
• HVP (High Voltage Protection) function or OVCD (Over Voltage Cut-off Device) function: The UPS will cut off the input voltage by
itself once it is out of the range.
• Turning on the UPS without the battery: The UPS can start up normally without the battery supply as long as the AC is in the
normal condition.
• It is convenient for the user to set the parameters such as the output voltage & frequency, charge current and password by using
the LCD panel.
• Via the LCD, the user can get the clear and correct information of the UPS operation condition such as the load, input/output
voltage, input/output frequency, and battery voltage, etc.,
• The advantages of multi-segments fan speed-control: the efficiency increased, noise decreased and the life of the fan extended.
• CPU can record 5 times abnormal information of the UPS which enables to find out the correct diagnosis about UPS failures, to
increase the efficiency of maintenance.
• Users can use RS232 & MIDI UPS Expert to display information of the current UPS operation state and manage it. The SNMP
card is another way for users to communicate, monitor and control the UPS via the network.
• When the input voltage is within ±10%, the UPS can set the operation at the ECO MODE in purpose of improving the efficiency.
The UPS will turn to online mode if abnormal condition occurs.
• The self discharge time of battery can be set that extend the battery life.
• The output voltage can be set through LCD: 200 / 208 / 220 / 230 / 240 Vac
• Charger
► Boost charge & floating charge are available and there are 4 segments of charge current optional to be set, 0.7A/1.4A/3A/4A
(for one charger board) or 1.4A/2.8A/6A/8A (for two charger boards), in accordance with the actual condition to keep the battery
at full state, thus extending the battery life. (Floating charge voltage is 219.2Vdc, Boost charge voltage: 224Vdc)

2. UPS SYSTEM INTRODUCTION

2.1 Operation Mode


• 9K/11KVA 2U UPS has 4 kinds of basic operation mode
► On-line Mode
The UPS can work at the AC mode while the input voltage, load and input frequency meet the below conditions.

► Battery Mode
The UPS will go into the battery mode when the input voltage & frequency are in abnormal condition.
When it is set on “cold start”, the UPS works at battery mode.

► Bypass Mode
The UPS can work at bypass mode when the output voltage is within the range of input voltage shown as below.

The UPS will transfer to bypass mode from inverter mode when any of the following event occurs.
1. No start with normal AC source
2. BUS OVP,UVP
3. Over-temperature protection
4. Inverter OVP,UVP,FAIL
5. Overload
6. Output short
7. MCU invalid

► Economic Mode
When the UPS is set on the ECO mode, and the input voltage is within +/-10% of output voltage, then the UPS can work on
the ECO Mode.

2.2 operation mode introduction


2.2.1 On-line Mode (single unit)

During the normal status, the input power will be converted from AC to DC via rectifier & PFC. The DC voltage will supply to the char-
ger circuit for charging the battery, and to the inverter circuit to produce clean and steady sinusoidal output voltage for the load.

2.2.2 Battery Mode (single unit)

• When the input voltage is in abnormal condition (power off or abnormal wave shape, etc., ), the UPS will transfer to battery mode
automatically .The battery will offer the power to PFC to generate the DC BUS voltage, and the DC BUS voltage will offer to inverter
to produce clean and steady sinusoidal output voltage for the load.

2.2.3 Bypass Mode (single unit)


2.2.3-1 Flow Chart

ENGLISH
• The UPS will come to bypass mode when either overload or over-temperature occurs but the input voltage is nominal. It will
automatically return to ON LINE MODE once the faults are cleared.
• When the UPS detects the output short circuit, or DC BUS OVP, or failure of rectifying or the Input/output fuse opened, the UPS
will transfer to the BYPASS MODE.

2.2.4 Nominal Mode (parallel)


2.2.4-1 Flow Chart

• While the UPS operate on the PARALLEL MODE, the UPS must satisfy the following conditions: capacity, output voltage and
frequency of the UPS must be the same and the load will be equalized by two units. If one unit is in faulty condition, all of the load
will be supplied by the other one. In case that the whole load exceeds the power capacity of this one, the UPS will transfer to the
BYPASS MODE.

2.2.5 Battery Mode (parallel)


2.2.5-1 Flow Chart

• When the input voltage/frequency is out of the range, the UPS will automatically transfer to the BATTERY MODE, and the load
will be equalized by two units. When the input is in nominal range, the UPS will return to the ON LINE MODE.

2.2.6 Bypass Mode (parallel)


2.2.6-1 Flow Chart

• Just as the same reason of Chapter 2.2.3, two UPSs will transfer to the BYPASS MODE at the same time and share the equal
load.

2.3.2 Control Panel Introduction (refer to Fig. 2.3.2-1)

1. UPS “OFF” key


The inverter will be off if pressing the “OFF” key for more than 3 seconds.
2. The UPS will start up by pressing the “ON” key for 3~5 seconds. When the UPS works at ON-LINE MODE, battery discharge
test will be done for 10 seconds if pressing the key for 3 seconds. Be noted that the pressing time should be within 3~5
seconds, either too long or too short will result in the failure of turning on the UPS.
3. Function selection keys
By using this key, the output frequency, voltage & operation mode can be set, and LCD screen be scrolled. (refer to 3.1).
4. Backlight LCD display
Display as 16×2 bytes, indicating the operating status and AC/DC input/output status of the UPS. Please refer to chapter 3.1
for details.
5. Abnormity indicator
Indicates ups internal fault.
6. Output or “Overload” indicator
Indicates the output circuit operating normally when the led display green. the output LED will transfer from green to red. it
Indicates the UPS is under overloaded condition. The UPS will transfer to bypass mode within a specified time and the LED
will keep on for warning.
7. Bypass Indicator
Indicates the UPS operating on bypass state and the power of load supplied from bypass via the filter.
8. Inverter Indicator
Indicates the inverter circuit in normal condition.
9. Input AC Indicator
Indicates the input state of AC.
10. Battery Working Indicator
Indicates the UPS operating at the BATTERY MODE, that is, the external battery is in discharge condition.

1. Input terminal block


It is used for connecting the input power supply. Please refer to Chapter 1.3 for details.
2. Output Terminal block
For connecting to the load.
3. Input breaker
For the UPS input power switching and providing protection.
4. External battery connector
For connecting the external battery pack.

For ventilation, cooling and fan protection.

For parallel communication.

It is a RS232 communication port. Refer to Chapter 3.2 for details.

2.3.5 Top Case Dismantlement & Installation (Fig. 2.3.5-1)

• Dismantlement:
1. Use a #2 cross-head screwdriver to remove the 14pcs of screws which secure the top case
2. Take the case off.

• Assembly:
Secure the top case by tightening the 14pcs of screws with 0.8-1Nm panel.

2.3.6 C Board Dismantlement & Installation

• Dismantlement:
1. Use a #2 cross-head screwdriver to remove the 2pcs of case brackets that secure the control panel (Fig. 2.3.6-1).
2. Remove the 4pcs of wind shield on the C board by a handle of diagonal pliers.
3. Use a #2 cross-head screwdriver to loosen the wires secured by terminal base CNC5, CNC1, CNC6, CNC7 and CNC10. Pull
out the wires connected to CNC11, CNC16 and CNC17.
4. Use an inner hexagon sleeve with 7.1mm across flats to remove the 9pcs of hexagon nuts that secure the C board.
5. Take C board off upwards and remove the black insulator under the board (Fig. 2.3.6-2).

• Assembly:
Reverse the dismantlement actions.
Tightening torque for wires: 1.2-1.5Nm; Screw tightening torque for PWBA: 0.8-1Nm.

2.3.7 Control Board Dismantlement & Assembly

• Dismantlement:
1. Unplug the 3pcs of flat cables which connect the two ends of the control board.
2. Draw out the control board upwards and take it off. (Fig. 2.3.7-1)

• Assembly:
1. Insert the LED flat cable, SNMP flat cable and flat cable of communication board respectively into the corresponding connector
of the terminals on the control board.
2. Insert the connector of the control board into the corresponding connector on B board.
3. Fix the 2pcs of case holders connected with C board. Screw tightening torque is 0.6-0.8Nm.

2.3.8 Front Panel Dismantlement &Assembly (Fig. 2.3.8-1)

• Dismantlement:
1. Remove the two covers at the two sides of the front panel (1).
2. Use a #2 cross-head screwdriver to remove the screws at the four corners.
3. Draw out the front panel with a slight force until the clips separate from the base.
4. Disconnect the wires at CNB23 and cut off the cable tie. Draw out both this wire and LED flat cable from the base. Then take
the front panel off.

• Assembly:
Reverse the dismantlement actions.
Tightening torque for wires: 1.2-1.5 Nm; Screw tightening torque for PWBA: 0.8-1 Nm.

2.3.9 H Board Dismantlement & Assembly (Fig. 2.3.9-1)

• Dismantlement:
1. Remove the wires connected to CNH4(or CNH5), CNH7, CNH1, CNH2, CNH6 and CNH9.
2. Use an inner hexagon sleeve with 7.1mm across flats to remove the 4pcs of hexagon nuts that secure the board.
3. Take the H board off upwards and take away the black insulator under the board.

• Assembly:
Reverse the dismantlement actions.
Screw tightening torque is 0.8-1Nm.

2.3.10 S Board Dismantlement & Assembly (Fig. 2.3.10-1)

• Dismantlement:
1. Remove the insulator between the S board and the fan.
2. Use a #2 cross-head screwdriver to loosen the wires connected to CNS8. Disconnect the cable from CNS10. Use an inner
hexagon sleeve with 8.1mm across flats to remove the WS1&7 fixed on the bus bar between F board and A board. Then cut
off the cable tie which secure the wires on the partition plate and the two cable ties fixed at the fan beside the S board which
secure WS7.
3. Use an inner hexagon sleeve with 7.1mm across flats to remove the 6pcs of hexagon nuts that secure the board.
4. Take the S board off upwards and take away the black insulator under the board.

• Assembly:
Reverse the dismantlement actions.
Tightening torque for wires is 1.2-1.5Nm. Screw tightening torque for PWBA is 0.8-1Nm

2.3.11 I/O Terminal Cover Dismantlement &Assembly (Fig. 2.3.11-1)

• Dismantlement:
1. Use a #2 cross-head screwdriver to remove the 2pcs of screws that secure the terminal cover.
2. Screw tightening torque 0.8-1Nm.

2.3.12 Rear Panel Dismantlement & Assembly (Fig. 2.3.12-1)

• Dismantlement:
1. Use a #2 cross-head screwdriver to loosen the wires connected to CNA4, CNA6, CNF1 and CNF3.
2. Unplug the fan terminals connected to CNB2 and CNB4.
3. Cut the cable tie that binds the input CORE with the grounding wire and unwrap the wire around the core.
4. Loosen the input L wire (the brown one at the rightmost) at the I/O terminal block.
5. Remove the 7pcs of screws which secure the rear panel on the base and take the rear panel off.

• Assembly:
Reverse the dismantlement actions by step 2-5-4-3-1 in sequence.
Tightening torque for fixing wires is 1.2-1.5Nm. Screw tightening torque is 1-1.2Nm.

2.3.13 B Board Dismantlement & Assembly (Fig. 2.3.13-1)

• Dismantlement:
1. Remove the 4pcs of wind shields at the front and back.
2. Loosen the wires at CNA7 and CNA8. Unplug the flat cable connected to CNA9.
3. Unplug the fan terminals connected to CNB2 and CNB4. Remove the wires connected to CNB6 and CNB7. Cut off the two
cable ties fixed at the fan besides the board which secure the black wire, red wire and blue one.
4. Use an inner hexagon sleeve with 7.1mm across flats to take apart the 9pcs of hexagon holder which fix the B board. By using
a #2 cross-head screwdriver, remove the 3pcs of screws which secure the B board.
5. With a sweep upward force, take the B board off.

• Assembly:
Reverse the dismantlement actions.
Tightening torque for fixing wires is 1.2-1.5Nm. Screw tightening torque for fixing PWBA and hexagon holder is 0.8-1Nm.

2.3.14 F Board Dismantlement & Assembly (Fig. 2.3.14-1)

• Dismantlement:
1. Remove the screws which secure the holder, supporting the H board. Take the holder off.
2. Remove the screws to free the bus bar between A board and F board. Remove the two pcs of bus bars.
3. Loosen the wires at CNF7 and CNF8.
4. Use an inner hexagon sleeve with 7.1mm across flats to take apart the 6pcs of hexagon holder which secure the F board. Take
the F board off upwards.

• Assembly:
Reverse the dismantlement actions.
Tightening torque for fixing wires is 1.2-1.5Nm. Tightening torque for fixing the hexagon holder is 0.8-1Nm.

2.3.15 A Board Dismantlement & Assembly (Fig. 2.3.15-1)

• Dismantlement:
1. Use an inner hexagon sleeve with 7.1mm across flats to take apart the 6pcs of hexagon holder which secure the F board.
Remove the 2pcs of screws which secure A board at the base by a #2 cross-head screwdriver.
2. Take the A board off upwards.

• Assembly:
Reverse the dismantlement actions.
Tightening torque for fixing the hexagon holder is 0.8-1Nm.

3.1 LCD & LED Display and Introduction

Introduction for operating the buttons

• As shown in the above diagram, the characters under the screen are corresponding with the four buttons underneath.

ENT shown as: DOWN UP .

To change some configurations, the machine must be in stand-by and need to restart the electronic to enable
the new settings.

3.1.1 UPS SETUP Menu


Enter SETUP Mode
• Pls press UP & DOWN simultaneously more than 3 seconds. Remove your fingers when the screen appears as below.

• Press the key of ENTER ( ): you will enter the screen of password input shown as below.

• If you want to enter the SETUP mode, you must firstly input the password.“^”means that current password is under modification.
The digitals under modification will decrease by 1 each time when pressing the DOWN key (when the digital is 0, it will be 9 by
decreasing 1) and it will increase by 1 each time while pressing the UP key (when the digital number is 9, it will be 0 by increasing
1). The modified digital will turn to the next when pressing the ENT key. The range of password setup is 0000~9999 and the default
one is“1234” which you can change after entering the SETUP mode.

• Basis Setting

Press the DOWN or UP button, the number
will decrease or increase by 1. The number
is cycled among 0~9. After the setup of the
current one, it will skip to the next one by pres-
sing the ENT button. While ^ is pointing at the
fourth one, press ENT button. Then the SAVE
dialog box will show on the screen.

√ Remark: the value with * * means the currently used one of the UPS.

► When the menu stays at Level1, it will enter the menu of Level 2 by pressing the ENT Key. Press the DOWN key, It will enter the
menu of START Setting Level1. It will return to the SETUP login screen by pressing the UP key.

Change Password : change the password of the SETUP mode login.

Language : choose the language displayed on the LCD screen.

3. SOFTWARE INTRODUCTION

• Start setting

► When the menu stays at Level 1, press the ENT key, it will enter the menu of Level 2.
Press the DOWN key, it will enter the menu of Charger Setting Level 1.
Press the UP key, it will enter the menu of Basis Setting Level 1.
► When the menu stays at Level 2, it will enter the menu of L key.
Press the DOWN or UP key, it will switch among the menu of Level 2 as shown in the above diagram.
► When the menu stays at Level 3, the current value will be selected and it will return to
Level 2 by pressing the ENT key. Press the DOWN or UP key, it will switch between Enable and Disable. Either end of the current
used value will be marked as *.

BATTERY START :
Used for setting whether the UPS can start on the battery without AC input. The default value is Enable.

AUTO RESTART :
Used for setting whether the UPS can restart by itself and work at online mode while the AC recovers after UPS battery discharge
shutdown. The default value is Enable.

• Battery Setting

► When the menu stays at Level 1, press the ENT key, it will enter the menu of Level 2.
Press the DOWN key, it will enter the menu of OUTPUT Setting Level 1.
Press the UP key, it will enter the menu of CHARGER Setting Level 1.
► When the menu stays at Level 2, it will enter the menu of Level 3 by pressing the ENT key.
Press the DOWN or UP key, it will switch among the menu of Level 2 as shown in the above diagram.
► When the menu stays at Level 3, the current value will be selected and it will return to level 2 by pressing the ENT key.
Press the DOWN or UP key, it will decrease or increase the setup value, or switch among the selectable menu.

3. SOFTWARE INTRODUCTION

BATTERY LOW ALARM :


It is used to set the point of battery low alarm. The default value is 20% of the battery capacity. The alarm point will decrease by
1% when pressing the DOWN key at a time and increase by 1% when pressing the UP key (The battery capacity is 0% once the
voltage comes to the shutdown point). The regulation range of battery low alarm point should be within 5%~40%. The default value
is 20%.

SHUTDOWN VOLTAGE :
It is used to set the voltage of UPS shutdown point. When the value of the battery voltage comes to the setup one, the UPS will

shutdown. The shutdown voltage will decrease by 1V when pressing the DOWN key at a time and increase by 1V while pressi
capacity is 0% once the battery voltage reaches the shutdown point). The regulation range of shutdown voltage should be within
152V~176V (that is 9.5V*16Pcs~11V*16Pcs). The default value is 158 V. If the setup value of shutdown voltage is less than 158 V,
the shutdown point will be still the default value 158 V as long as the discharge time is more than 1H.

DEEP DISCH TEST :


It is used to set whether the UPS will do periodical deep discharge test or not. Press the DOWN and UP key, it will switch among the
menu of “NO TEST, 30 DAYS, 60 DAYS, 90 DAYS”. The 30DAYS means that the UPS is continuously charged for 30 days without
discharging. The default value is NO TEST.

BATT CABINET NUM :


It is used to set the number of battery cabinets installed in order to calculate the autonomy during the working on battery. Press the
DOWN and UP key, it will be possible set the number from 0 to 9 cabinets. The default value is 1.

BATTERY AH :
It is used to set the total capacity of custom external battery cabinets in order to calculate the autonomy during the working on
battery. Press the DOWN and UP key, it will be possible set the value. The default is 0.

ENGLISH
OUTPUT VOLTAGE :
It is used to set the rating output voltage (200V, 208V, 220V, 230V, 240V) of the UPS. The default value is 230V.

FREQ CONVERTER :
It is used to set if the UPS can work at the Freq converter mode.
► When set on Disable, the UPS will automatically choose to work at 50Hz or 60Hz according to the freq of the utility power. If
the DC start, the UPS will read from the EEPROM.
► When the us0Hz, the output freq will be 50Hz as long as the freq of AC input is within the range of 40Hz~70Hz.(bypass no
output).
► When the user changes the freq to 60Hz, the output freq will be 60Hz as long as the freq of AC input is within the range of
40Hz~70Hz.(bypass no output).
√ The default value is DISABLE.

ECO MODE :
It is used to set the UPS on the eco mode. When the input voltage is within +10% of the rating output, the UPS will convert to bypass
output for improving the efficiency of the UPS. It will recover to the inverter while the voltage is out of the range. The default value is
DISABLE. When working at this mode, the efficiency will reach to 96% under full load.

► When the menu stays at Level 1, press the ENT key, it will enter the menu of Level 2.
Press the DOWN key, it will enter the menu of SETUP login.
Press the UP key, it will enter the menu of OUTPUT Setting Level1.
► When the menu stays at Level 2, it will enter the menu of Level 3 by pressing the ENT key.

3.1.2 Self-diagnosis Information when Starting Up

> Display the working freq of the UPS


The UPS will automatically detect the input freq is 50Hz or 60Hz and then set the
working freq which is read from EEPROM if no AC input. The default value is 50Hz.

> Display the input voltage and frequency.

> Stay for 7S. Rectifier fail if the voltage of the BUS is less than 60V. Or it is OK.

> Test if the charger works normally or not.

> Test if the battery is in normal condition. It will display ”no battery” if detecting the
battery fails (alarms). Then the UPS will still work at on-line mode.

> Test if the DC BUS is under normal condition.

> Stay for 10S to do inverter test. If it is normal, it will display “Inverter OK”. Otherwise,
“Inverter Fail”.

> The current working freq is the one in the EEPROM.

> Confirm if the DC Softstart is successful.

> Test if the battery is in normal condition.

> Stay for 10S to do inverter test. If it is normal, it will display “Inverter OK”. Otherwise,
“Inverter Fail”.

3.1.6 Bypass State


• When the AC input voltage is within the range specified by the rating output voltage (240V:156~276V;
200V/208V/220V/230V:156~264V) and the input freq is inside the range specified by the rating freq (50Hz:47~53Hz;60Hz:46.4
~53.6Hz), there is output from bypass.

• When the AC input voltage is outside the range specified by the rating output voltage (240V:156~276V;
200V/208V/220V/230V:156~264V), there is no output from the bypass.

• When the AC input voltage is within the range specified by the rating output voltage (240V:156~276V;
200V/208V/220V/230V:156~264V) but the input freq is out of the range (50Hz:47~53Hz; 60Hz:46.4~53.6Hz) , there is no
output from the bypass as shown below.

3.1.7 The Normal State of AC Inverter


• When the input voltage of AC is within 100~300V and the input freq is within 40~70Hz, as shown below

3.1.8 The Normal State of Battery Inverter


• When the input voltage of AC is within 300~330V, as shown below

• When the input voltage of AC is less than 100V or more than 330V, or the freq is out of the range (40~70Hz), as shown below

3.1.9 Eco Mode (Pls refer to 3.1 & 3.2 for the mode setting)
• When the input voltage of AC is within -10% ~ +10 of the rating output voltage, or the input freq is within -6% ~ +6% of the
rating freq, the UPS will have output from the bypass, as shown below (To distinguish the bypass mode and eco mode, please
refer to the LCD display.)

• When the input voltage of AC is out of –10% ~ +10% of the rating output voltage, or the input freq out of –6% ~ +6% of the
rating freq, the UPS will have output from the inverter, as shown below.

3.1.10 Fault
The FAULT LED will light when abnormal condition occurs, as shown below

• The OVERLOAD LED will light when overloading, as shown below

• When at AC or Bypass mode, the UPS detects if the battery is available in every 30 second interval. If detecting the battery
removed or damaged, the REP. BATT LED will flash.

• If detecting the voltage is abnormal when doing battery discharge test by manual (e.g. by pressing the test key on the LCD
panel, or sending test instruction via CPU), the Rep. BATT LED will light on.

3.2 Communication Interface Introduction


3.2.1 Communication Interface
• RS232 Port
You can connect MIDI UPS Expert in the PC to your UPS via RS232 interface and manage it. A 9PIN female type SUB-D inlet is
installed on the rear panel of the UPS for communication between the UPS and the PC. By using the software, you can check
the power status of the UPS via RS-232 port. Pls find the details as below.
PIN assignment:
► PIN 2 : TXD <Transmitting Data>
► PIN 3 : RXD <Receiving Data>
► PIN 5 : GND <Grounding>

RJ-11 PIN Assignment
If using the external power supply (10-14VDC), connect the grounding wire to 3PIN and the anode to 4PIN. The UPS will imme-
diately cut off the output. (refer to Fig. 3.2.1-4 )
