• Global energy demand is increasing
exponentially. • This will create global energy Crisis in near future. • The solution of these issues is seen in renewable energy sources. • Solar energy is considered one of the major sources of renewable energy. 22 October 2019 Seminar Class 1/20 INTRODUCTION • Solar photovoltaic (PV) cells are used to convert solar energy into regulated electrical energy using power electronics converter. • These solar PV cells exhibit nonlinear characteristics and very low efficiency. • The characteristic of solar cells become more complex under changed atmospheric condition. 22 October 2019 Seminar Class 2/13 Continued.. • Efficiency of solar cell is less, it only converts 30-40% of energy incident on it to electrical energy. • Efficiency of solar cell increased by a technique called maximum power point tracking. • By installing this technique we can get additional 20-30% of extra energy.

MAXIMUM POWER POINT TRACKING (MPPT) CONTROLLER • The role of the MPPT is to match panel output power with load requirements. • The mechanism is based on the principle of impedance matching between source and load, for maximum power transfer between load and PV array at different operating points.

PERTURB & OBSERVE (hill climbing) • Perturb & Observe (P&O) is the simplest method. • In this we use only one sensor, that is the voltage sensor, to sense the PV array voltage. • Hill climbing method fail under rapid environment change conditions.

CONCLUSION • According to Maximum Power Transfer theorem. • the power output of a circuit is maximum when the Thevenin impedance of the circuit (source impedance) matches with the load impedance. • By using solar panel and boost converter with MPPT algorithm an average efficiency of 89% has been achieved. 22 October 2019 Seminar Class 14/20 REFERENCES
