Activity
Using the Career Clusters

© La-Nette Mark 2012

The purpose of this lesson is for the students to learn the different career opportunities
available and for them to start thinking of the career path they would like to take. The
National Career Clusters™ Framework is comprised of 16 Career Clusters™ and related
Career Pathways to help students of all ages explore different career options and better
prepare for college and career.

This activity is Internet-based, so it would be great if you have access to the Internet
and these websites: http://www.careertech.org/career-clusters and
http://www.iseek.org/careers/clusters.html .

If you don’t have a class set of computers or Internet lab, you can easily use your
Teacher’s Notes
projector and students can write the notes from the projection or give as a homework
This is an optional activity that the students will love. Once students finish with their cluster of grapes,
assignment.
you can easily instruct them to color and cut out the clusters to create an “Our Career Clusters” pol the
grapes clustered together to form a grape vine.
This activity is a great way for students to visibly see the career clusters and apply
which cluster best suites them. Once the students have finished filling in the career
clusters chart, I have provided an additional activity for the students to complete
using a cluster of grapes. This activity does not take long and it is a great way to
reinforce the career clusters concept. Also included is a career clusters quiz with
answer key for you to utilize at your discretion.

Optional Class Craft Idea

Once students finish with their career cluster of grapes, you can easily instruct them
to color and cut out the clusters to create an “Our Career Cluster” class poster board
with all the grapes clustered together to form a grapevine.

Fill in the table with the appropriate information. One site I find helpful is
