Practical Parcels - Design Brief For Year 4 Students

Introduction:
Online shopping is becoming a popular means of obtaining
products. To provide a reliable and protective service,
companies use non-recyclable products that gather as
general waste after arriving at its final destination. We
need your help to solve this problem. What can we use to
create packaging that is sustainable and recyclable?

The Brief:
Design a package that will be protective enough to
‘ship’ a biscuit without it breaking in ‘transit’.

With your design, you must consider the following:
Lesson 1: Introduction and testing of materials
Use of recyclable materials - how sustainable is your
Lesson 2: Designing your parcel

The cost - can't be too expensive
Lesson 4: Producing your parcel
The protectiveness
Lesson 5: Testing your parcel
The size of your parcel
Lesson 6: Creating a presentation on your design
The look of the parcel from the outside
Lesson 7: Presentation of design

Generating Designs:
Now that we know what we must consider when creating
our package. we must create a design of what our package
will look like. This must include a list of all the materials
we plan on using.

Evaluation:
Sustainable
Once your design has been produced, it must be
evaluated. Your design will be marked against the
following using a mark out of five:
Is it a suitable size?
Was it able to protect the biscuit?
Development Goals:
Was it an affordable package?
Was it made of sustainable and/or recyclable Goal 11: Sustainable cities and communities

Presentation:

Photos will be taken on your iPads throughout the

be created at the end of the process. This will include
information on every step of the process we have done.
