Good morning everyone.

For the information of everyone, Art is EVERYWHERE. You could be an art. *point a classmate*

Base from Google, art is often considered the process or product of deliberately arranging elements in

a way that appeals to the senses or emotions. It encompasses a diverse range of human activities,

creations and ways of expression, including music, literature, film, sculpture and paintings or in simpler

words, art is a diverse range of human activities in creating visual, auditory or performance which

expresses heir imaginative conceptual ideas or technical skills intended to be appreciated for their beauty

or emotional power.

But we, oppose that all art could be art, including immoral art. From the word itself, immoral, do we

still have the guts to accept it in the society? Of course not right? According to Merriam, immoral means

not morally good or right, morally evil or wrong. Therefore, an immoral art CAN’T BE AN ART.

An art is supposed to be ethical and moral. And from what I have stated a while ago, an art is supposed

to be appreciated by its beauty and emotional power. Art is the reflection of our life because it is a way of

expressing anything be it yourself or any situation. When an art is maintained, it makes us a better person.

Through art, we imagine other lives, we apprehend other experiences, we see the world through different

eyes and ears. And accepting immoral art could ruin this.

There are great artworks that are considered to be immoral. Several artworks were put down for

containing immoral figures, very sensitive elements. And this is one great reason why IMMORAL art can’t

be an art. For instance , I am an artist. Before creating an art, we must put in mind our viewers, if we will

get positive insights or not.

Immoral art is not that acceptable, most especially when you are living in a country where your culture

or you were raised being conservative. Museums as we all know, it is used for public consumption, most

especially for academic purposes because it is a learning basket for everyone most especially kids. Parents

expose their children to artists and works of art for them to reflect to and learn from it. In addition to that,

exposing this kind of art to children might give them a different interpretation of that art which creates
curiousity, and of course we cannot control what these children will think. That’s why they should always

be guided. And to avoid these kind of circumstances, we shouldn’t really expose them to these kind of art.

Arts like these were not suitable for the type of culture we Filipinos belong t. Unless we’re in a European or

American country and so be it.

SUPPORTING FACTS:

1. A painting by John William Waterhouse named Hylas and Nymphs was taken down from display

in the Manchester Gallery, as a part of a performance artwork, because it perpetuated “harmful stories”

about women and girls, depicting them either as decorative objects or femme fatales.

2. A show of Chuck Close’s paintings was cancelled at the National Gallery because of allegations that

he sexually harassed two of his models.

3. Sam Durant’s sculpture, Scaffold a reproduction of period gallows was dismantled and buried

because the Dakota people found it offensive. Their ancestors had been hung in the gallows the artist

recreated.

4. An online petition was signed by over 6,000 people to remove a painting by Balthus, Theresa

Dreaming which shows a girl in her underwear on the grounds that is romanticizing the sexualization of

children.

IF AN ARTWORK IS CONSIDERED IMMORAL, THAN IT IS EXTRAPOLATED THAT SO IS THE ARTIST.
