SPOKEN POETRY CONTEST GUIDELINES

1. Spoken Poetry is a performance art that is word based. It is a writing that is meant to
be spoken or delivered with emotions to an audience. It is an oral art that focuses on the
aesthetics of word play, rhythm, improvisation, rhymes, intonation and voice inflection.
2. The contest is open to grade 9 and grade 10 students. Only one representative for each
school is allowed.
3. Contestant is required to present his/her ID upon registration.
4. The spoken poetry must be an original composition and must be written in Filipino.
(The use of Taglish is not allowed).
5. An e-copy of the spoken poetry must be submitted on or before October 9, 2018 at
darfu3cliarc@gmail.com.
6. The piece must be related to agriculture such as, but not limited to the following:
(Impacts of Climate Change on Agriculture and Food Supply, Advanced
Technologies/Mechanization in Agriculture, Conventional vs Organic Agriculture,
Agriculture at Present, Current Challenges in Agriculture, Farming as a profession,
Sustainable Agriculture, The Future of Agriculture in the Philippines, Agriculture and
Population Growth, Agriculture and Urbanization, Agroforestry, Agro-based industries,
Women’s Role in Agriculture, etc.)
7. Each contestant is given a maximum of 5 minutes to recite or deliver his/her piece. No
deduction shall be made if the contestant finishes the delivery in less than the maximum
time-frame.
8. The spoken poetry must delivered from memory and any movement is confined
onstage.
9. Appropriate attire for the spoken piece should be worn during the contest.
10. Sounds, instrumental or musical background are allowed to complement the delivery.
No deduction shall be made if the contestant opts not to have a musical background.
11. Name of contestant must be submitted on or before October 2, 2018 at
darfu3cliarc@gmail.com. Failure to do so shall result to the disqualification in the
contest.

Criteria for Judging

11.1. Message/ Content 40%

 The content of the spoken piece is relevant and related to agriculture.


 The piece has a powerful and meaningful message to the audience.

2. Delivery and Performance 30%

 The spoken piece was delivered from the heart.


 Connection to the audience was established from the start.
 Facial expressions, hand and body gestures emphasized the different elements of the
performance.
 Eye contact pulled the audience to the message of the spoken words.
 Audience’s attention and interest were captured and sustained throughout the delivery.
 Enunciation is clear. Audience can understand what is being spoken.
 Words are pronounced distinctly and correctly. Does not stutter nor stammer.
 Pronunciation and intonation sound natural.

3. Memorization 10%

 The piece was effectively recited from memory.


 Freestyle or improvisation was spontaneous even if a word or line was forgotten.

4. Voice Variation and Projection 15%

 Voice is modulated, compelling and phrasing is fluent.


 Spoke loudly and clearly enough for listeners to hear and understand.
 Voice projects confidence and conviction.

5. Attire 5%

Attire complements the contestant’s spoken piece.

 Prizes for the Spoken Poetry Contest

 1st Prize- P 3,000.00 (with medal and certificate)


 2nd Prize- P 2,000.00 (with medal and certificate)
 3rd Prize- P 1, 000.00 (with medal and certificate)

 Non-winners will be given certificates for participating in the contest.
