CHAPTER III

METHOD OF THE RESEARCH

A. Object of the Research

In conducting this research, the researcher will selects 3 songs on world cup

championship the first song titled Boom by Anastacia as the object of the research it

is in 2002. Second song titled Wavin Flag by K’naan it is in 2010 . The third song La

La La by Shakira feat Collinhouse Brown also gave spirit to the players in 2014.

B. Research Design

Research is a formal systematic application of the scientific and disciplined

inquiry approach to the study of problems ( Gay and Airasian, 2000: 627 ). Research

is basically categorized into qualitative and quantitative researches. While the

qualitative research relates to non-numerical data, the quantitative research involves a

number of numerical data. Therefore, the researcher applies the qualitative research in

doing this research.

Based on punch in Developing Effective Research Proposal (2002:3)

qualitative research is empirical research where the data are not in the form of

numbers. Punch also adds that qualitative research is a way of thinking, or an

approach, which similarly involves a collection or cluster of methods, as well as data

in-numerical or qualitative forms.

In addition, Trochim in Marti ( 2013:17) mention that qualitative data could be

much more than just words or texts: photograph, videos, sound recordings and so on,

can be considered as qualitative data.

Ian in Qualitative Data Analysis : A User-Friendly Guide for Social Scientists

(1993:15) says that qualitative research has become a fashionable term to use for any

method other the survey: participant ( and non-participant ) observation, unstructured

interviewing, group interviews, the collection of documentary materials and the like.

Data produced from such sources may include field notes, interview transcripts,

documents, photographs, sketches, video or tape recordings, and so on.

In conclusion qualitative research is a best-known term used in many methods

of collection data other than survey. It is a method of collecting non-numerical data

Qualitative research includes participation, observation, interview, and collection of

materials, it applies statement in explaining the data. Qualitative research lists down

details from sources such as field notes, photographs, videos, and recordings.

C. Technique of Collecting Data

another important methodological phase in a research is technique of

collecting data. Placing sources and retrieving information are good starting points in

any data collection effort. Inaccuracy in data collection will impact the results of the

research and ultimately leads to unfavourable results. The researcher will take data

mainly from the songs. The following explanations are the complete steps of the

researcher in deriving the data.

1. Listening songs

2. Analysis lyrics that contain motivation

3. The researcher will searching for some related references to support the

researcher. The references are in the forms of book, article and internet.

4. The researcher then will arranging the findings into good sentences of correct

grammar.

D. Technique of Analysing Data

The next stage after data collection is the data analysis. The researcher should

be accomplished by sufficient data in presenting the researcher finding. The

researcher will use descriptive method in analysing the data. Descriptive method

summarizes the data according to certain situations. It also concerns about conditions,

practices and so on.

Indeed, descriptive method develops by explaining and describing the topic.

Based on Aggarwal (2008) in Salaria ( 2012 ); Descriptive research is devoted to the

gathering of information about prevailing condition or situations for the purpose of

description and interpretation. This type of research method is not simply amassing

and tabulating facts but includes proper analyses, interpretation, comparisons,

identification of trends and relationships. Talbot (1995) in Sandelowski ( 2000 ) said,

descriptive research is typically depicted research texts as being on the lowest rung of

the quantitative research design hierarchy, in this hierarchy “true” experiments aimed

at prediction and control are the gold standard and any other design is non

experimental and weak.

The following explanation are the complete steps of the researcher in

analysing the data.

1. The researcher first will analyse the problems as stated in the beginning by

listening three songs of world cup championship. The researcher listening for

several times in order to have better understanding on the problem raised.

2. The researcher will write the lyrics that giving spirit.

3. The researcher will pick up data from the related sources of information such as

book, article, and Internet. Moreover, the researcher analyses the accuracy of the

data obtained.

4. The researcher finally will arrange the solutions into good grammatical sentences

and presents the findings.
