1. What is a spreadsheet program?

Spreadsheet program (e.g. MS Excel, Numbers (Apple))
- computer program used to enter, store, analyze, and present quantitative data
- collection of text and numbers laid out in a grid
- displays values calculated from data
- allows what-if analysis
-ability to cange values in a spreadsheet and assess the effect they
have on calculated values

Parts of MS EXCEL

1 File Name MS Excel stores in files called workbook (.xlsx)

2 Name Box displaying the cell reference of the active cell
3 Select All Button used to select all of the cells in the active worksheet
4 Formula Bar displays the value or formula entered in the active cell
5 Row Headings are numbers along the left side of the worksheet window that identify different rows
6 Sheet Tab workbook are made up of individual sheets. Each sheet identify by a sheet name
7 Sheet Tab Scrolling scroll the list in the worksheet
8 Column Heading are letters along the top of the worksheet window that identify the different columns in the works
9 Cell each intersection of a row and column is a cell. Worksheet data is placed w/in separate cell.
10 Worksheet display displays the content of the spreadsheet laid out in grid of rows and columns
11 Active Cell The cell currently selected in the active worksheet. It is outline w. thick border and the corespond
