DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS VI

I. A. Content Standard : The learner demonstrates understanding of pie graphs and experimental
probability.
B. Performance Standard : The learner is able to create and interpret representations of data (table
and pie graphs) and apply experimental probability in mathematical
problems and real-life situations.
C. Competency : The learner constructs a pie graph based on a given set of data.
D. Objective : At the end of the lesson, the pupils are expected to:
a. know the steps in constructing a pie graph
b. construct a pie based on a given set of data
c. apply the process of constructing a pie graph through simulation

II. Subject Matter

Topic : Constructing a Pie Graph
Source : Google
Materials : Butane and Kitchen utensils, Groceries, Visual Materials, Netbook,
Printer

III. Procedure:
Teacher’s Activity Pupils’ Activity
A. Preparatory Activities:

a.1 Prayer
Let’s have a prayer.
May God grant us with the wisdom to discover the
right, the will to choose it and the strength to make
a.2 Greetings it endure.
Good afternoon class!
Good afternoon Mr. Maribao.
a.3 Checking of Attendance
Who are absent for today?
There is no absent sir.
I am glad to hear that. Let us give
ourselves a hand.
a.4 Review
Before we will start our topic this
afternoon, let us recall first what we had learned
yesterday. Everyone, eyes on the board and study
the data.

The table below shows how workers in Palawan

get to work.
Mode of Transportation Frequency
Bus 12
Jeep 14
Tricycle 28
Motorcycle 36
Taxi 10

Follow up questions:
1. How many people were in the survey?

2. What is the least preferred mode of There were 100 people.

transportation?
The least preferred mode of transportation is Taxi.
3. What is the most preferred mode of
transportation? The most preferred mode of transportation is
Motorcycle.

4. How many people prefer to ride the There were 36 people who preferred to ride
motorcycle? motorcycle

Very well said pupils. A big hand for

ourselves.

a.5 Motivation:
Now, your job is just to observe carefully
as I will show you something that is very
necessary for our new topic this afternoon. Are
you all ready?
Yes sir!

(The teacher is cooking an egg)

(Follow up questions :)

1. Now, what have you observe?

2. What happens to the fried egg? You were cooking fried egg.

Teacher Jeric divided the whole fried egg into

Very good! Now, can you guess what our parts and were given to my classmates equally.
topic is for this afternoon?

Maybe we will be dealing a construction of Pie

Very Good! Graph.

a.6. Presenting the Objectives

Before we proceed to the lesson proper, let us
all read and understand the lesson’s objective for
this afternoon.
At the end of the lesson, the pupils are
expected to:
a. know the steps in constructing a pie
graph
b. construct a pie based on a given set of
data
c. apply the process of constructing a pie
graph through simulation

Thank you children.

B. Activity
This afternoon I will divide you into 3 groups.
Each group is required to finish the task as stated
in your performance task worksheet. (See
Enclosure 1)

Here is the instruction. You are to construct a

pie graph using the performance task worksheet
through a simulation with help of differentiated
instruction strategy (See Enclosure No. 2).

I will give you 5 minutes to do the task.

Go!

Always remember to choose health foods.

C. Analysis:
Now, everybody go back to your seats.

(Follow up Question)
What have you observe to the activity?
We were able to construct a pie graph though
budgeting 500 peso bill worth of 5 products.
Very good!

Everyone please eyes on the board.

Everybody listen.
(The pupils are listening)
D. Abstraction:

What are the steps in constructing a pie graph?

The steps in constructing a pie graph are

1. Put the data into a table
2. Divide each value by the total and multiply
by 100 to get a percent.
3. Multiply the percent to 360 (whole degrees
for circle).
4. Draw a circle. Use a protractor to measure
the degrees of each sector.
5. Label it.

What is a pie graph?

A pie graph is a specialized graph used in statistic.
This is to represent the data in a pie figure to see
the value of each situation.

E. Application
Now, I will group you into 2 and each group
is given a worksheet to do the task. Let’s see what
how far you learnt. (See enclosure 3 and 4)

PERFORMANCE TASK
(GRASP)

Goal You are given to budget the amount of 500 peso bill worth of 5
products for the project of supporting charity agencies in Bonifacio,
Misamis Occidental.
Role You are the select students of Liloan Central School who are task to
buy food products for the project.
Audience The terminal vendor will act as audience to introduce the food
products.
Situation As a responsible citizen, it is our duty to help out of school youth in
any charity agencies in Bonifacio to address their needs in terms of
health thing by giving them food products.
Product Construct a pie graph by encoding the data and produce a hard copy
with the help of printer.
