ACTIVE LISTENING

Active learning is a broader concept, then just hearing the person. It is about observing and

processing everything the person says to you. It is a state of mind where you put a stop on your

thoughts and ideas and tries to get what the other person wants to say. One should have enough

patience, not to interrupt the other person while having conversation with someone.

To be a good listener, it essential to listen everything with an open mind and open senses. It

should not be just looking at the person and hear their talks, and at the end of conversation, you

are not able to paraphrase the discussion or you are not clear with the topic. Active listening is

also a two-way conversation between listener and the speaker. If the listener is focused, both

never lose their interest in the topic

I am a person-oriented person. I always try to look at the person when he/she is talking to me. I

observe every gesture of the person during any conservation. It keeps me focused because if the

person is not expressing themselves while discussing, I start feeling monotonous and lose my

interest in him/her. I give more responsibility to the people if they relate to me through emotions,

gestures and the way opposite person behaves. I usually respond to the person either by nodding

my head or through positive reinforcement so that the other person doesn’t lose interest in me

while talking. After the conservation I sometimes discuss the talk or ask the questions or topics

that are not clear to me. I prefer to participate in the conversation.

The quality I want to improve is that I lose my track sometimes if I am upset by sometimes. That

situation of tension keeps interrupting me again and again. It generally happens to me when I

have some personal issues or any stress situation before the conversation starts. I want to

improve this and want to begin to live in the moment. Sometimes the past conditions affect the
present essential tasks that I need to concentrate on. I am trying to overcome this through

meditation, but it is a hard thing for me to overcome. Eventually one day I will succeed in that

and will be able to overcome this weakness and become a good listener.
