IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing or Activity: Transform Me!
presenting the new Note to the teacher.
lesson 1. Divide the class into 6 groups.
2. Provide each group strips of bond papers for them
to write their answers.
3. Give them enough time to write their answers.

Prepared by: TERESITA P. BUBOLE

MATHEMATICS RESOURCE PACKAGE

4. Give two points to the group who can give the

correct answer.
5. The group with high score will be declared winner
and shall be given a prize.

Direction: Express each of the following by means of an

equation where k represents the constant of variation.

1. The cost (c) of chicken varies directly as its weight

(w).
2. The circumference (c ) of a circle varies as the
length of its diameter (d).
3. Water pressure (P) varies directly as the height (h)
of the water.
4. The perimeter (p) of a square varies directly as its
side (s).
5. The weight (w) of pure water varies directly as its
volume (v).
6. The income (I) of a worker earning k pesos per
hour varies directly as the number of hours (h) he
works.

Answers:
1. C = kw
2. C = kd
3. P = kh
4. P= ks
5. W= kv
6. I = kh

B. Establishing a Supposing, the income (I) of a worker P50.00 per hour

purpose for the lesson and he works 8 hours, how much is his income?
(Note to the teacher. Emphasize the importance of the
concept of direct variation in solving problems).

C. Presenting examples The teacher will present the examples below.

of the new lesson Example No. 1
If c varies directly as a and c = 12 when a = 4, find c
when a= 16.
Solution:
c = ka
12 = k(4)
k=3
c = ka
c = 3(16)
c = 48

Example No.2
If m varies directly as n and m = 28 when n = 14, find n
when m = 50.
Solution:
m = kn
28 = k (14)
28
k = 14
k=2
m = kn
50 = 2n
n = 25

D. Discussing new Discuss the concepts of direct variation by asking the

concepts and students on how to find the constant (k) of the variation.
practicing new skills Present the examples below.
#1 Example 1.
y varies directly as z. If y= 12 when z = 9, what is the
constant of the variation?
Soltution:
y=kz
12 = k (9)
9
k =12
3
k=4
Example 2.
a varies directly as b. If a = 144 when b =64, what is the
contant of the variation?
Solution:
a = kb
144 = k( 64)
144
k = 64
9
k=4
E. Discussing new Activity 3. Match Us! ( Board Work)
concepts and In each of the following, y varies directly as x. Find the
practicing new skills values as indicated.
#2 A B
_____1. If y = 12 when x =4, find y when x =12 18
_____2. If y=5 when x= 10, find x when y =16 75
_____3. If y= 40 when x=16, find y when x=30 32
_____4. If y= 45 when x =5/2, find x when y=18010

3. Y = 75
4. X = 10
5. Y = 72

F. Developing Mastery Activity 4. Level Me Up!( Let each group solve the
problem below).
Teacher- Guided Activity.

1. If x varies directly as a + b, and x = 12 when a = 1 and

b = 2, find x when a = 3 and b =4.
Solution:
𝑥 = 𝑘 (𝑎 + 𝑏)
12 = 𝑘( 1 + 2)
12 = 𝑘(3)
12 𝑘(3)
=
3 3
𝑘=4
𝑥 = 𝑘(𝑎 + 𝑏)
𝑥 = 4 (3 + 4)
𝑥 = 4(7)
𝑥 = 28
Practice Exercises:(Seatwork)
1. If d varies directly as e, d = 0.8 when e= 1.6, find d
when e = 3.2.
Ans. d = 1.6
2. If n varies inversely as m, n =18 when m= 6, find m
when n = 36.
Ans. m = 12

H. Making 1.What is a direct variation?

Generalizations and (Expected answer: Direct variation is a relationship
abstractions about between two quantities which produces pairs of numbers
the lesson in which their ratio is constant).
1. How would you solve problems involving direct
variation?Expected answer: To solve problems
involving direct variation you must follow some
steps:
Step 1. Translate the problem into mathematical
equation.
Step 2. Solve for the constant of the variation.
Step 3. Using the equation, use the second values of
the variables.
