Work with your table partner for this. You two will
share your appetizer and help each other finish so
there’s room for your entrée.
You’ve had these before (review material)! Think back
to all the times you’ve had each appetizer and select
your favorite to have again.

colored and labeled properly (8 points for being colored; 16 points for labels – see
below).
The first drawing should be of the general overview of photosynthesis and should
include the following terms (1 point for each; 6 points total):
Sunlight Energy Plant
Water Carbon dioxide Oxygen
The second drawing should be of both photosystems and should include the
following terms (1 point for each; 10 points total):

Light independent Glucose Pigment
Stroma ATP NADPH
Thylakoid

2. Buffalo Chicken Sliders

In a short essay (5 paragraphs), paraphrase the following video: Photosynthesis: Crash
Course Biology #8
Skip section [9:13 – 11:11]
*When it covers protein complexes, you only need to know there are 4, but you DO NOT
need to know the specific names
*DO NOT need to write about RuBisCo

spelling; final 2 points for correct essay format (10 points total)
Terms to include (1 point each; 14 total):

Main course is
independent. Read
this article from
Newsela: Unlike
omnivores and
carnivores, autotrophs
make their own food.
Select one Entrée from
the list below.

1. Eggplant Parmesan
Create a Popplet where you will create two different food chains. Both Popplets will
be on the same page. The first should be of a typical environment (you choose the
setting). Make sure to let me know what ecosystem you are in (marine, forest,
desert, etc.) The second food chain will be in an extreme condition: either hot springs
or hydrothermal vent.
Both food chains will include 3 levels (find this in the section titled Autotrophs In The
Food Chain). Each level is worth 2 points (12 points total for both chains). Each level
should have one organism from that environment, name and picture. Each example is
worth 2 points (1 point for the example and 1 point for its picture; 12 points total
for both chains). 1 point for each separate chain (2 points total).

2. Baby Back Ribs with Spicy BBQ Sauce

Make a graphic organizer where you compare and contrast a typical plant from the
environment of your choosing to an organism in an extreme environment. Your GO
can be in the form of a Venn Diagram, T-chart, or any other form as long as you can
explain how it helps you compare and contrast the information. 4 points for setting
up your GO and 4 points for explaining your logic (orally).
Terms and phrases to include (each 2 points; 18 points):
Photosynthesis Extreme environment Oxidize
Chemosynthesis Toxic chemicals Trophic level
Energy from the sun Autotroph/Producer Chemical reaction

Time to go all out! You’ve
been waiting all day for this
dessert! You will be working
with a partner again to split
dessert. Read High-tech indoor
farming is shaking up the
agriculture community from
Newsela. Use this article to
complete one of the following.

Both assignments should contain the following:

Brief description of the article (6 points)
Quick recap on photosynthesis (6 points)
Your side of the research – whether it should be funded or not (4 points)
3 different arguments to support your side (24 total points; see below):
These should be your educated, scientific guesses on the following:
How it will impact oxygen levels in local communities (8 points)
If you think it can be reproduced on a larger scale (8 points)
What the environmental impact will be regarding climate change (8 points)

1. Chocolate Lava Cake

News Report: You can either choose to make a YouTube video or a Podcast posted to
SoundCloud (10 points for your well-thought design and layout). In either scenario, you
will present the findings of this article and take a side: you will either take the side of
moving this project to a larger scale or take the side of holding back. You can set up your
video or audio as you please. This can include a talk show, news report, an influencer or
vlogger who just found out about this, or an education show – this is where you get to
have your creativity shine!

2. Strawberry Cheesecake
Presentation: You will create a presentation using PowerPoint, Google Slides, or Prezi
(10 points for your well-thought design and layout). You will assume the role of either a
scientist on a team that is pushing to move the project forward or a scientist who wants
to hold back on it. This is the presentation that you are giving to a board of directors
that are deciding whether to fund this project or not.
