I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
 Identify the figures of speech and other literary techniques and devices in the text
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Module 4 The Archipelago: The Tesseract by Alex Garland
Materials: White board Marker, Board, Books, Video, PowerPoint
Reference: 21st Century Literature from the Philippines and the World pages 126 - 129
III. Priming
A. Preparatory Activities
1. Daily Routines

2. Motivation
1. The students will do a tongue twister to practice their speaking skills.

B. Lesson Proper
1. Activity
 Let the student give the recap of the lesson about Hugot Lines.
 Think of a Hugot Lines about Manila
*Teacher will review the Figures of Speech:
 Simile  Personification
 Metaphor  Hyperbole
 Irony

*The students will have a group discussion about the story “The Tesseract” then analyze the figures of speech
used on the story.
2. Analysis
1. Sean says two words aloud. What are they? What is their significance to the story?
2. How can these two words be seen as metaphors or symbols in the story?
3. Why is he bothered by the way the children treat their nannies? What could this be symbolic of?
4. In the end what does McDonald’s symbolize?

3. Abstraction
How did the writers use the different figures of speech in narrating the story?

4. Application
a) Have you ever used any figures of speech on your daily conversation or in your writings?
b) How do you feel about using figures of speech on your daily conversation?
5. Assessment
Group Activity:

*In a group write a song with figures of speech as part of the lyrics just like the Firework of Katy Perry.
