Rationale

Ever since humans first appeared, food always has an important role in survival. It is a
necessary ingredient to promote one’s health and growth. It also contains nutrients that are
needed by human beings for them to grow and function properly. Aside from its health
benefits, food can also taste delicious and splendid. The food that we are going to talk about
is the ginanggang.

“A Ginanggang for Every Juan” is a project concerning the number of ginanggang

sold during a certain number of days wherein dissemination of information about the said
product, factors that may lead to the increase of the price, and the price of the ginanggang
itself heavily affects it.

The purpose of this project is for people to further understand the concept of
marketing a particular product considering the number of units of the product sold, cost of the
said product, and the budget for advertising. With this information, it can be related to a
combined variation wherein the numbers of units sold varies directly with the advertising
budget and inversely to the price of the product, in this case, the ginanggang.

Design

A. Description

Ginanggang, one of the bestselling products in Surigao, is mainly made up of banana.

It is rich in potassium and contains about 122 calories. It is founded in the Philippines,
specifically in Mindanao. Ginanggang is basically a grilled banana with fine sugar. Its
sweetness makes a good vibe to people especially during snack time where it can fulfill every
“Juan’s” empty stomach and give them a lot of needed energy. It is also unbelievably healthy
regarding the fact that it is naturally made.

B. Cost of Product
Product Price
Banana ₱300
Margarine ₱45
White Sugar ₱35
Total Cost ₱380
In order for vendors to earn profit, a price must be set to a certain product which, in
this case, is the ginanggang. The ginanggang was sold at a price of ₱5 per skewer containing
only 1 banana wherein 40-50 products are sold if there are no classes and 80-100 products if
there are classes. Since there is no approximate value of ginanggang sold, their midpoints
will be used, yielding 45, if there are no classes, and 90, if there are classes. Hence, the
income will be ₱200-250 (if there are no classes) and ₱400-500(if there are classes).

C. Budget for Advertising

Advertising in the business sector is always present. In order for the vendors to attain
more customers, they will need to have a budget for their advertising wherein the
advertisement must be attention-grabbing. The advertisement will have a budget of ₱1000.

D. Application of Variation

a. Data Gathering

Product Price Price (If price of Price (If price of

banana increases) banana decreases)
Banana 300 300 (Eg. 350/400) 300 (Eg. 200/250)
Star Margarine 45 45 45
White Sugar 35 35 35
Total Price 380 430 / 480 280 / 330

As mentioned earlier, ginanggang was sold ₱5 per skewer containing only 1

banana. The income is ₱200-250 (if there are no classes) and ₱400-500(if there are
classes). Since there is no approximate value of the sales, we will use their midpoints
which are ₱225, if there are no classes, and ₱450, if there are classes.

Though it was not shown on the table, the factors affecting either the rising or
falling of the ginanggang’s price are the following:

 Size of the banana

 Price of the banana
b. Equation of Variation

If we were to turn this into a variation, it would be a combined variation

wherein the number of ginanggang sold varies directly with the advertising
budget and inversely as the price of the ginanggang itself. Let y=number of
ginanggang sold, x=advertising budget, z=the price of the ginanggang, and k as the
𝑘𝑥
constant, having the formula; 𝑦= . Since there are two (2) values of the number
𝑧

of ginanggang sold (45, if there are no classes, and 90, if there are classes), we will
also have two equations.

𝑘𝑥 𝑘𝑥
𝑦= ; 𝑦 = 45; 𝑥 = 1000; 𝑧 = 5 𝑦= ; 𝑦 = 90; 𝑥 = 1000; 𝑧 = 5
𝑧 𝑧

1000𝑘 1000𝑘
45 = 90=
5 5

225= 1000𝑘 450 = 1000𝑘

𝟗 𝟗
𝐤= 𝐤=
𝟒𝟎 𝟐𝟎

If there are no classes, the constant If there are classes, the constant of
9 9
of variation is . variation is .
40 20

Conclusion and Recommendations

A. Conclusion

The interviewers conclude that the main factor that affects the price of the
ginanggang is the factors of the banana, such as the size and the price of the banana itself.
They conclude that the materials for making ginanggang are banana, white sugar, margarine,
coal, and griller. At the end of the day, the vendors sell 40-50 ginanggang if there are no
classes and 80-100 ginanggang if there are classes. Hence, the income will be ₱200-250 (if
there are no classes) and ₱400-500 (if there are classes). In the variation, the interviewers can
conclude that as y, number of ginanggang sold, increases, x, the budget for advertisement,
also increases but z, the price, decreases.

B. Recommendations

The interviewers recommend to be wise and when buying materials for making
ginanggang to avoid extra expenses. To better gain profit, they also recommend that vendors
should sell in crowded places.
