LESSON PLAN IN PHILIPPINE POLITICS AND GOVERNANCE

I. OBJECTIVE
Content Standard: The learners demonstrate an understanding of the
decentralization and local governance.
Performance Standard: Explain the roles of different political institutions.
Lesson Objectives:
At the end of the session the learners will be able to:
1. Identify the different levels of the Philippine Local Government.
2. Appreciate the roles and functions of Local Government Unit through
writing a reaction on the policy of Barangay Katangawan.

III. PROCEDURE

A. Preliminary Activities
 Prayer
 Checking of Attendance and Collecting Assignment
 Checking of Physical Arrangement and/or Setup
 Review of the previous discussion/lesson
o Can you recall the different regular courts and special
courts of the Philippine Judiciary System?
o What is the difference between constitutional court and
statutory court?
 Motivation (Five Minutes)
Task # 1: Identify and Name the Leader. The learners will be divided into
four groups. They will be shown an image with no caption. They will
identify the government position which hold the highest position in each
respective government institutions through writing an answer on the
board. The groups will be given an appropriate point to the first to write
the answer on the board, to wit:

Red (1st- 100 points)


Blue (2nd -75 points)
Yellow (3rd - 50 points)
Green (4th – 25 points)

3. Barangay Hall of Lagao
4. Malacañang Palace
5. Municipal Hall of Malapatan
6. Barangay Hall of Katangawan

B. Developmental Activities

 ACTIVITY (Ten Minutes)


Task # 2: Concept Mapping. The four groups will have one representative
to write and explain briefly the keywords about the National Government
and Local Government they have written. The teacher will draw
connections between concepts based on the learner’s ideas.

 ANALYSIS (Five Minutes)


The learners will be asked the following questions to introduce the
concept:

1. Can the National Government transfer its power and authority to the
Local Government? How?
2. How are city, municipality, province and barangay interrelated with one
another?

 ABSTRACTION
o Video Presentation: Decentralization and Local Gov’t Unit
o Power Point Presentation

The teacher discusses the following:


a. Decentralization and Local Governance
o Local Autonomy
o Forms of Decentralization
b. Different levels of the Philippine Local Government
o Province
o City/Municipality
o Barangay
At the end of the discussion, the learners will be asked about their learning on
the discussion.

 APPLICATION
Task # 3: Arrange Me. Each group is given the same number of rumbled
names of municipalities, cities, provinces, and barangays in the Philippines.
The groups will arrange the names into four categories of (Barangay,
Municipality, City, Province). When finished, the group will recite a short
yell.

The first group to finish will be given an appropriate point, to wit:

Red (1st- 100 points)


Blue (2nd -75 points)
Yellow (3rd - 50 points)
Green (4th – 25 points)

IV. EVALUATION
Short Quiz
In a 1/2 piece of paper, the leaners will answer the following:

1. Identify at least 10 out of 26 Barangays of General Santos City.


2. What can you say about Roles and Functions of Local Government Units in
implementing of the curfew policy of Barangay Katangawan.

V. ASSIGNMENT

Conduct Interview.
Instruction: Each group will interview one barangay official. The group may select an
interviewee, such as; (a) Barangay Chairman/Captain, (b) Barangay Counselor/s, (c) SK
Chairman. The following questions must be asked, to wit:

o What are his/her responsibilities as a barangay official?


o What are the problems encountered in governing the barangay, and solutions
which were taken to address these problems?
