Task 3. To create a development plan to face institutional issues.

Part 1: Individual activity

Study the contents for Unit 2 and do the next activities:

1. Go to the knowledge environment and open the book Leadership and

strategic management in education from Bush and Coleman (2000).
Read the chapter 7 about strategic and development planning in
education and take notes about this information.
2. Answer in the forum the next questions (post the answers in the
forum directly):
a. What is the difference between strategic planning and
development planning?
b. Who is involved in strategic planning?
c. Which are the processes for development planning, according to
Hargreaves and Hopkins?
3. Choose one of the collaborative work roles to work in group with your
partners.

Part 2: Collaborative activity

All the forum participants need to design a development plan for a high
school in which there are 3 different situations to be improved. From the
list, choose one situation to design the corresponding development plan,
according to what Hargreaves and Hopkins proposed.

 Monitoring and evaluating the quality of teaching.

 Increasing the use of ICT across the curriculum.
 The overall importance of pupil attitude and motivation and the
need to have high life expectations.

1. All students discuss in the forum about the topic chosen for the
development plan design.
2. Decide how to develop the plan or how to distribute each plan’s
processes (audit, construction, implementation and evaluation). Each
student should post the ideas directly in the forum, explaining how
the corresponding process will be carried out. Consider the roles for
the collaborative work.
3. Read all your partners participations in order to give feedback or help
with more ideas.
4. Present the development plan in a word document. This document
must have a cover page, the chosen situation and the development
plan processes explained.
5. The submitter will submit the document into the monitoring and
evaluation environment link for this assignment.
