of Guihulgan City at the City Auditarium on
Wednesday, September 4 to raise awareness
on the use of illegal drugs.
The said program was spear-
headed by the Department of
health with the support of the LGU.
Various speakers delivered their mes-
sage, including the Investigation Agent I of
Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA),
Gladys Grace C. Cruz, the Deputy Chief for

H
ave you ever been lost as if you do not
have any direction to follow? In this
world of seven billion people, there
are only two sides people should pan-
el with, the good side and the bad side. But are
they free to choose which sides to take place?
Beneath the hills of the
town was a home as strong as steel. It was not only
graced with wealth but also with love. As the heat
of the sun rises, a voice was heard from the inside,
it was Ando singing, ‘We are the children of yester-
day’s dream, We are the promise of the future we
bring,’ these were the lines from his favorite song
entitled ‘Yesterday’s dream’ which reflects the role
of the youth towards the success of tomorrow. Ando
is a boy of big ambitions who looks up to his father
so much. Actually, whenever he is asked about
what he wanted to be in the future, he always an-
swer the same old thing, ‘I want to be like my father
and catch the monsters in this society! He is a good
cop.’ He was full of hope as he uttered those words.
Time flew fast and Ando
grew older, but it wasn’t the same old days. As he
rode his way to his future, he met different types
of people, wise, smart, talented, but there would
always be the people living on the other side of
the fence, a whole lot opposite from Ando’s per-
sonality. ‘Ando!’ a loud shout was heard from afar,
it was Bado, the leader of the so-called ‘threat’
squad in the school. Bado was a complete oppo-
site. Bado’s squad befriended Ando, but eventual-
ly, they handed him something. ‘Trust me Ando,
try this and you will be rejoiced,’ said Bado. Out
of curiosity, the poor innocent sixteen-year-old
Ando took it. He felt dizzy at first but eventually,
he got high. He wanted that pleasure, it was like

heaven in hell unlike any other emotion he felt.
From that day on, there
was not even a single hour that Ando dreamt
of having it. He got addicted and he started cut-
ting off his classes but that did not end that way.
He became fiercer, and started to talk back to his
parents. It was not Ando anymore. His judgement
and decision-making skills, thinking capacity
and even his academics were affected. He real-
ly reached rock bottom. He became his complete
opposite as if a parasite consumed his brains.
One cold night came,
and Ando came home late. His mother and fa-
ther confronted him, ‘Son, what is happening to
you? Where did we go wrong?’ implied his father.
Teary-eyed, Ando went into thinking. That line hit
him hard. A flashback popped out of his mind and
made him realized, he was not his self anymore.
He became the monster he once wanted to catch.
Slowly, he got into re-
habilitation and stood up from the ground. It
was never too late for him to become a bet-
ter version. Years went by and he finally fin-
ished his studies and became just like his father.
He was once lost, but with
the love and support of his family, he eventually got
on track. Mistakes does not mean downfall, people
may reach rock bottom but it does not mean it was
the end, it means people should learn to get back
up again and have a better understanding that
could serve as basis on which sides to panel with
and people are free to do this, all they need is to
be responsible enough in choosing. This time, he
chose the good side, he chose to be a cop that deci-
phers morale, respect, integrity, and the resiliency.
