 INTRODUCTION
Welcome to the Winter 2016 edition of the Style of Sound 100. We’ve been busy over
the last few months tracking all the best music sites and in this edition you’ll find some
old favourites as well as a few new comers who have made it into the Top 100.

Who’s included?
• Online publications focusing primarily on music reportage
• Sites which have regularly published content over the last six months (from July 2015 -
January 2016)

Who’s not included?

• Lifestyle magazines
• Radio stations, TV sites, newspapers, forums, online boards, aggregator sites
• Online music shops and streaming music services

How are the sites ranked?

We’ve found social engagement to be a good indicator of online influence as they are in
essence digital word-of-mouth recommendations.
When music fans regularly share a site’s content over time in great numbers, the more
influential it becomes, helping the site become ubiquitous – and trusted.
Our index is based on the total number of social engagement a website’s content received
over a set period of time - in our case over the last six months - and we counted social
shares across Facebook (including likes and comments), Twitter, Pinterest, Google+ and
Linkedin.
Whilst this method is not 100% fool proof it provides the best measure fo global music
influence to date.
