Notification-cum-Guidelines

1. Background
The Shushila Sharma New Idea Award is an annual award of ₹ 25,000
given to an individual for unique innovative idea to encourage young
enthusiast contributing to the field of environment. This award, instituted
in the memory of Late Shushila Sharma, will be given away on 14th
August, 2019 on the occasion of Prof. P. Khanna Memorial Lecture 2019 to
be organised in the NEERI Auditorium at CSIR-National Environmental
Engineering Research Institute, Nagpur. This award is to recognize
persons who are the proponents of outstanding innovative ideas that are
expected to bring about substantial improvements in the area of
environment. The idea must address the problems faced by the
disadvantaged resource-deprived people in India and offer an original and
implementable solution.

2. Eligibility
Applicant should be a member of the CSIR-NEERI staff. Besides scientific
and technical staff of CSIR-NEERI, Project Assistants, Research Fellows,
Research Scholars, AcSIR Students, Trainees, administrative staff can also
apply for this award.
Age limit: Not above 40 years on the date of notification, i.e. August 5,
2019.

3. Criteria
The award will focus on the potential outcomes of the idea. The essential
elements of the award criteria include impact, feasibility, originality and
effectiveness (cost and time). The elements of the criteria are:
1. Impact: refers to the level of improvements the idea will bring.
2. Feasibility: refers to the possibility and the ease with which the idea can
be implemented.
3. Originality: means how new or unique the idea is.
4. Effectiveness: means the benefit the idea will bring and at what cost
(time and other resources).

Candidates will be evaluated using the above-mentioned criteria.

 4. Submission for the Award
All applications must reach at R&D Planning Division (RDPD), CSIR-National
Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI) latest by 8th
August, 2019. Please send the filled up PDF form to

5. Procedure for Selection

The Director, CSIR-NEERI shall appoint a committee comprising of various experts

Does the idea solve the problem it is intended to solve? How well does it solve it? Is the cost of
implementing the idea justified, in terms of time as well as financial cost?
