On Campus Lecture Reflection

I went to a lecture in Management 2216 on Monday, October 28th at

1:30. I was interested in attending this lecture because I plan on going into

business and am having a hard time deciding between management or

marketing since I am interested in both. Management is something that

peaks my interest because it is associated with high leadership positions,

which is exactly what I am looking to do.

She primarily went over Levene’s test. From what I was able to

understand, Levene’s test is a hypothesis that scholars will use when they

are testing a “null hypothesis” in order to see if it is equal to the variance in

the subject. I was a little bit lost since I am not a student in this class, but I

looked it up a little bit when I got home and was able to understand it a little

better. So, when I get into this class, I’ll be able to fully understand these

topics.

From this lecture, I took away some key points that I would really like

to consider. Management is most definitely not going to be easy. I already

knew this, but on top of all your responsibilities, you are also responsible for

a lot of people when you are in a position of management. I wouldn’t expect

it, but management might require some mathematical and theory skills.
Although I think I would be good at that -- I need to make sure it is

something I am going to be able to handle long term, not just for a couple of

weeks. When I was heading to this lecture, I was honestly expecting it to be

kind of boring. However, I found it to be very enthralling because I really

like to learn about business. I think it was definitely worth my time because

now I know that I do in fact have an interest in this field so I can take this

class next semester or the one after that. I wouldn’t say that this lecture

raised any particular questions for me that wouldn’t be answered when I

take the actual class. I most definitely plan on attending another lecture like

this given that I now want to take this class either next semester or the one

after.

Participating in this class will definitely challenge me since it’s the

backbone of more upper-division classes, so I will really have to absorb this

knowledge for future success. It will strengthen my knowledge of

management skills so that when I get into the workforce and I am hopefully

in a position of management, I will know exactly what to do. By attending

this lecture, it also helped solidify my interest in business administration,

because I wasn’t 100% sure about going into it, but now I can at least take

a couple of classes and really feel it out.
